Brown University Computing and Information Services seeks a qualified Instructional Designer to join the Academic Technology Group.
This position is part of a team of instructional designers, technologists, digital media experts and support specialists who partner with Brown faculty to integrate technology with teaching and learning. The focus of this position is supporting instructor initiated projects and academic technology initiatives by applying knowledge of Learning Sciences research, expertise with technology, and a background in design methodologies. Other responsibilities include developing and delivering training materials, workshops, and presentations; documenting and sharing project outcomes to encourage experimentation and adoption; solving high-level problems as faculty employ instructional technology; piloting new technological and pedagogical strategies; and collaborating with diverse campus groups to support teaching and learning.
The grade level of the position will be determined based on the qualifications of the chosen candidate.
Bachelorâ??s degree or equivalent education and experience required.
Advanced degree in instructional design, learning science or related field preferred.
1-2 years experience as an instructional designer or equivalent required; experience in an academic environment supporting faculty for face-to-face courses is preferred. (Grade 9E)
3 - 5 years experience as an instructional designer or equivalent required; experience in an academic environment supporting faculty for face-to-face courses is preferred. (Grade 10E)
Teaching and/or training experience preferred.
Experience providing instructional project support at a college/university preferred.
Experience applying project management methodology to effectively leading instructional projects preferred
Proven ability to understand and implement fundamentals of instructional design concepts.
Proven ability to present written and oral messages that take into account the type of information being delivered and the diverse backgrounds, roles, and varied responsibilities of the audience
Strong customer service skills.
Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team that is positioned within a cross-functional unit.
Ability to develop congenial and productive relationships in order to work effectively with others
Ability to apply solving problem skills, perform analysis and seek solutions for continuous improvement.
Technical skills, including: learning management systems, collaboration and communication tools, authoring and media software, web tools and resources.
Ability to understand and operate in complex campus environment, and create a professional network across campus offices
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment where services are in high demand and new initiatives introduced routinely.
