The Chief Hardware and Telecommunications Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day management of all the Projects and Department administrative, and engineering functions within the Company. In this role, you will be accountable for the leadership and development the Hardware and Telecommunications Engineering Team. The position is a hands-on role which involves the management of a particular on-going Project or Projects whilst overseeing and ensuring any other current company Projects are meeting the high standards required by the Company and Industry.
The role involves the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) or Engineering Design and Procurement in compliance with a related client or International Industry standards and practices. The role also involves corporate responsibilities which will include developing execution strategies, technical audits, preparation of quotations for bidding new projects and cold-eye reviews of other lead telecommunication engineer’s work.

- Work in collaboration with the Corporate Management to set the vision and strategic direction of the Electrical Systems Group - Assist with setting strategy, direction, coordination and planning for designated systems - Provide technical (and execution) support and governance to Projects - Provide support and architectural design of enterprise satcom systems - Integrate satcom systems with various technologies - Coordinate closely with other engineering disciplines, Lead engineers and managers for the design requirements for projects, such as plot plan layouts, building service requirements and hardware requirements - Assist with evaluation of new products and services from vendors to determine applicability to hardware, software, and telecommunications systems - Technical interfaces with clients, other Departments, suppliers/vendors and consultants - Provide technical direction and act as the technical focus for the Group, including project set-up, execution, close-out - Review, support and agree Telecommunication technical issues with the Project Lead Telecommunication Engineer’s disseminate and implement Group’s ‘best practice’ on projects - Responsible for Telecommunication system design software including validation, training, and deployment on to Projects - Provide input to department budgets, proposals, training plans and Group’s technical succession plan - Keep up to date with latest industry practices, standards, and product development, and disseminate to the group - Network with other Chief Engineers in the Foster Wheeler organization, internally, nationally and internationally to facilitate best practice within the organization - Plan, Coordinate and conduct telecommunication audits and technical reviews on projects - Actively be involved in developing of Marketing and Sales tools - Work as part of the engineering team and provide 24x7x365 support when required
Essential Skills / Qualifications:
- Minimum Master Degree in Telecommunications, Computer Science or Computer Engineering - Minimum of 3 years experience developing and supporting complex enterprise level satcom-based telecommunications systems - Expertise in IT, satellite-based M2M communications / IoT, cloud-based technology - Deep knowledge of the following systems is essential: SkyWave IDP, Iridium, Inmarsat, Thuraya, ViaSat and Gonets products - Understanding of Satellite-based Data Communications and Networking, Public Address and General Alarm System, Digital - Trunked Mobile Radio Systems - Experience with low-power technologies such as BLE 4.0 and LoraWan networks - Broad experience in innovation, product development, and project management - Comprehensive pre-sales and marketing experience - Knowledge of emerging networking technologies and trends - Knowledge of electrical and computer engineering, telecommunications and mobile networking, including CAN and SCADA networks. - Embedded system programming and design, integration of various platforms. Knowledge of Raspberry Pi and Arduino platforms - Application engineering and support - Programming Languages and Technologies: C++, C#, ASP.NET(MVC), Java, SQL, Lua, ADO, SOAP / REST - Database Management: MS SQL, MySQL, Access - Business Intelligence / Data Mining: SSIS (Microsoft SQL Server), IBM Cognos, Weka, R - Data Warehouse (IBM Cognos, Microsoft-based) - Case tools (Erwin, BPWin) and reports (SSRS, Crystal reports, Rave reports) - Professional experience in B2B sales within telecommunications industry - A solid understanding and be conversant with the all of the following systems used in the industry: Satellite Communications System, Pipeline Communications, Radio Telemetry, Meteorological Systems Can work independently or as part of a team and be flexible with respect to work, location, and timing - Ability to lead a team and assist with mentoring more junior members of the department - Ability to work under pressure, meet targets and deliver on time and be able to identify risks with respect to technical issues - Previous experience of deputising for Group Manager / Department Head
