Job Summary This position will serve as an Assistant Level System Administrator within the IMSS Infrastructure & Operations group. This position will also deploy and support a broad array of campus IT systems for a wide variety of campus customers.
Job Duties - Participate in the design, deployment and continued operations of central infrastructure: Cloud, Virtualization, Configuration Management, Monitoring, etc. - Migrate distributed services and data (internal and customer) to central infrastructure; merge and retire duplicate systems. - Participate in the design, deployment and continued operations of customer systems and services that the team manages - Work with other IMSS staff and various campus groups to identify functional and technical requirements. - Participate in an on-call team rotation for off-hours support. Participate in scheduled off-hours maintenance windows. Some occasional off-hours work is required. - Participate in knowledge sharing exercises, new technology evaluations and best practices reviews with other IMSS staff; assist with system documentation and quality control initiatives. - Other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications - Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience (Minimum equivalent equals to a High School Diploma, or GED certificate, plus four years of experience). - Experience with P2V and V2V migrations. - Intermediate skills deploying and maintaining enterprise-level Linux solutions is required. - Intermediate skill in deploying and maintaining enterprise-level databases. - Intermediate to advanced skills in deploying, securing, troubleshooting, tuning and maintaining enterprise-level systems. - Strong networking knowledge and skills (especially TCP/IP, UDP & DNS) are required. - Candidate must have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. - Must be highly professional, focused on quality, customer service oriented, and have excellent in-person support demeanor for users of all skill levels. - Participate in an on-call team rotation for off-hours support. Participate in scheduled off-hours maintenance windows. Some occasional off-hours work is required.
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with MySQL, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB strongly preferred. - Experience with Salt is strongly preferred. - Experience with Terraform is strongly preferred. - Experience using VMware and Red Hat Enterprise Linux is strongly preferred. - Experience managing web and application servers, directory services, DNS servers, file and print servers, network load balancers and firewalls. - Experience using enterprise class monitoring and alerting solutions (SiteScope, Nagios, Cacti, SNMP, Dell OpenManage, etc.) - Experience using scripting languages for system administration. - Experience with IAAS, SAAS, and Cloud Computing (AWS, O365, Box, etc.) - Experience with P2V and V2V migrations. - Basic knowledge and administration of Windows and Macintosh platforms. - Relevant professional and technical certifications (EMC, VMware, Red Hat, Dell, etc.)
