The Interactive Advertising Bureau is the digital media and marketing industry's largest and most influential trade association. Primarily representing some 600 companies, who sell, optimize or deliver digital advertising, the IAB serves as the chief public policy arm, consumer and market research provider, standards and practices developer, supply chain negotiator, and industry relations coordinator for ad-supported digital media companies.
The IAB is launching a Data Center of Excellence to oversee the association's work in the area of data, to establish a board of industry leaders and establish the "Data Agenda" for IAB and industry. The IAB's new Data Center will coordinate the association's work in market and consumer research, identifying and instantiating best practices, standardizing the advertising supply chain, training and development initiatives, market outreach and education, and public policy development relevant to data and advertising.
The successful candidate will shepherd a member-driven organization within an organization, and work with the Center's Board of Directors and approximately 80-100 IAB member companies to develop and prosecute an agenda to build profitable revenue growth for companies engaged in data driven marketing, communications, and advertising.
The Vice President and Managing Director of the IAB Data Center of Excellence's responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Working with the association's COO, CEO and the Center's Board, develop the strategy, objectives and agenda for the Center of Excellence and oversee its growth, evolving it from IAB's current Data and Programmatic Councils.
Working with the association's Chief Operating Officer, oversee operations and finances for the Center, and assure continued funding from the Center's members commensurate with the agenda.
Develop and publish market-making research on the use of data, analytics and technology.
Work with multi-platform interactive publishers, agencies and data companies to identify key obstacles in the data advertising supply chain, and develop, publish, and campaign to implement solutions to take complexity and cost out of the supply chain.
Work with the IAB's Public Policy Office in Washington, DC to assure that legislation and regulation involving the use of data in the advertising industry conforms to industry and consumer needs and opportunities.
Oversee the development of training and development programs to improve the competencies of IAB members' staff involved in data advertising activities.
Supervise regular meetings of the Center and its various working groups.
Collaborate with other trade associations involved in furthering the growth of the data driven advertising and marketing ecosystem.
Serve as the IAB's and the industry's leading evangelist to marketers, agencies, publishers, and technology companies on data advertising and marketing.
Develop the staff of the IAB Data Center into productive, collaborative colleagues.
Ideal Candidate Profile
The Vice President and Managing Director of the IAB Data Center of Excellence is a leadership position in the interactive media and marketing industries. The successful candidate requires deep project management skills, the ability to coalesce opposing points of view among diverse groups, and a demonstrated track record of defining and achieving goals rapidly. He or she will have a well-rounded background in interactive advertising and advertising operations at a publisher, online network, ad-serving company, association, marketer, or advertising agency involved with interactive media planning and buying. The ideal candidate will have a consultative demeanor, an aptitude for managing negotiations, and a passion for solving problems and working with teams. S/he also will have a history of involvement with companies that specialize in data driven technology, marketing, and/or advertising.
More specifically, this individual must possess many, if not all, of the following characteristics:
10+ years of industry experience in the advertising and media industries with related experience in marketing, project management, ad product development, consulting, ad serving technologies, sales, data or business development.
Deep knowledge of data in the media and advertising industries, including their practices, key players, and supply chain relationships.
Deep knowledge of and prior experience in the use of data with a portfolio of relationships in these sectors.
Demonstrated track record of project management, dealing with both the big picture and details and manage multiple projects across multiple teams.
Strong communication skills.
Demonstrated capacity to convene and manage large group meetings while allowing all voices to be heard and then achieve consensus.
Must be a results-oriented self-starter and team player.
Ability to establish early credibility throughout the association and with IAB members.
Excellent presentation-development skills, and public speaking experience.
