The Business Manager oversees all fiscal and Human Resources activities for the Offices of Undergraduate Studies, Undergraduate Research, and General Education housed within Undergraduate Academic Affairs. This position is responsible for business functions including bookkeeping, monthly financial reconciliations, fixed asset tracking, file maintenance, processing travel requests and reimbursements, entering orders into HokieMart, monitoring budgets for university funds and sponsored projects to proactively identify and resolve problems, providing reports as needed, and advising on allowable use of funds. Other responsibilities include working with departments across campus to disperse internal grants funds, overseeing human resource activities including onboarding new employees, completing separation of employees, monitoring compliance for wage employees including emergency hires, and tracking training requirements such as COI and RCR. The business manager serves in a secondary role providing administrative assistance to the Assistant Provost for Undergraduate Education including calendar management and arranging committee meetings.
- Bachelor's degree in business, accounting or related field or equivalent training and/or experience. - Administrative support experience in an academic or professional office environment. - Ability to manage budgets and financial spreadsheets as well as personnel activities for sponsored projects and central operations. - Ability to maintain strict confidentiality and interact professionally and diplomatically with all individuals in a diverse multicultural environment including university executives, faculty, students and external partners. - Strong time management, organizational skills and work ethic.
- Experience with databases such as Banner and HokieMart. - Familiarity with Virginia Tech and Commonwealth of Virginia policies such as those related to purchasing and travel. - Experience with regulations and procedures associated with sponsored programs (federal and foundation).
