The Laundry Worker 2 leads subordinate staff, schedules, coordinates and performs all institutional laundry activities. Work is performed professionally and efficiently, incorporating both personal integrity and mutual respect.
- Perform all aspects of laundry activities to include but not limited to: - Instruct personnel in the proper technique and safety practices while maintaining compliance with applicable policies and procedures to provide a safe work place. - Ensure work environment is safe and clean. Keep all production and storage areas clean, organized and safe at all times. - Provide superior customer service. - Direct and perform loading, unloading, operation and programming of large institutional washers, extractors, tumblers, and other washroom equipment in order to provide a clean product for customers. - Direct the receipt, marking and sorting of soiled laundry. - Maintain equipment in a clean and sanitary condition. - Determine and prepare proper washing formulas and chemicals needed to process individual washer loads. - Apply stain removal and spotting procedures when necessary. - Inspect and produce processed laundry to ensure quality control, meeting department standards and end user requirements. - Monitor the use and care of equipment, chemicals and supplies. - Replenish product in appropriate dispensers. - Mend torn linens and articles as required. - With the approval of the Senior Supervisor, contact appropriate vendor to schedule maintenance and repair of laundry equipment. - Maintain accurate records such as inventories, production reports, equipment and supplies as required. - Initiate work orders for building repair and follow up on the timely completion of those work orders. - Ensure facility is locked and secured. - Evaluate the performance of subordinate staff. - Assume additional responsibilities in supervisor's absence. - Attend departmental meetings, safety meetings and training sessions. - Perform other related duties as assigned
Lead Duties - Lead, train, assign and check the work of subordinate staff performing various laundry tasks. - Provides feedback to supervisor to assist with work assignments and job performance.
Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essentials functions of the position and meet the physical demands of the working conditions.
Superior written and oral communications skills.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Commercial or other applicable laundry experience.
Lead or supervisory experience.
Basic computer skills, including email.
Valid state driver's license.

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $2214/month with periodic increases up to $2848/month
Schedule/Appointment: Variable according to need; normally Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm (1 hour lunch) / WFSE Bargaining Unit 1
Working Conditions: This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas.
Scheduled hours will vary depending on the needs of the department. Occasional overtime work is required. May be required to work weekends, days, evenings and holidays. The incumbent will work indoors as well as outdoors, including work in inclement weather during daylight and dark hours. This position requires extensive walking, lifting, carrying (up to 50 pounds) and/or moving of equipment and furniture, bending, stooping, kneeling, repetitive motion of arms and hands, and other physical movements as required by assigned tasks and essential functions of the position. This position is considered an essential position and availability will be required to respond to University emergencies.
