Summary of Duties and Responsibilities:
The Digital Agriculture Innovations Team (www.isudigitalag.org) within the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (ABE) is seeking qualified candidates for an Engineer V position. This team of professional staff and graduate students work closely with agricultural industry partners to develop innovative technology solutions for agriculture. The team has a strong innovation record with over 25 patents and licensed technologies. This position will lead an active research program focused on agricultural machinery technology and data systems.
This position will utilize engineering design skills to provide complex solutions for hardware and software systems in integrated mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and control systems on agricultural machines. Responsibilities include technical and program leadership in the areas of developing new agricultural machinery technology, analyzing agricultural machinery sensors to develop intelligent machinery algorithms, developing technical project reports, managing team communication, organizing personnel resources, and managing program outcomes. Significant interactions with industry project sponsors is anticipated.
The successful candidate will be a motivated, self-starter and have the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based environment made up of staff and graduate students. The candidate will possess excellent organizational and communication skills; be detail oriented; and have the ability to balance and prioritize tasks. The candidate will complete projects within a specified timeline, meet project cost criteria, produce exceptional results, and maintain a safe working environment. Flexible scheduling during peak project periods is expected.

Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 3 years of related experience.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Agricultural experience associated with row crop agriculture production Demonstrated knowledge of agriculture machinery GPS; instrumentation and CAN bus systems; and statistical reporting of machinery data Design experience in sensor signal analysis and software algorithm development for agriculture Experience providing technical engineering program management to industry sponsored research projects Experience with management and oversight of the design, testing, and documentation of complex engineering mechatronic systems involving mechanical, electrical and fluid control systems Technical experience and documented training competency with model based software development and agricultural machinery vehicle electronic standards.
All accrued vacation must be taken during the term of this appointment. Unused vacation will be forfeited upon resignation or termination from ISU.
