Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Procurement Operational Excellence Director for University Procurement. Reporting to the Chief Procurement Officer, the incumbent in this position serves as the chief of staff and supports all University Procurement Services operations. The Procurement Operational Excellence Director serves in a critical role, working closely with the Chief Procurement Officer, the Director of Procurement and the Director of Procurement IT to drive business operations, systems maintenance, internal communications and organizational health.
The Procurement Operational Excellence Director is responsible for the business management functions that ensure effectiveness of the operating rhythm, including setting up key processes to get work done, and leading projects. As the chief of staff, the incumbent provides insight and advice to the senior staff around operational excellence, headcount, resource allocation and participates in overall group strategy decisions.
Among the key duties of the position are the following:
Partners with senior staff to manage the planning process ensuring coordination with corporate planning processes as well as planning integration across the broader organization.
Works with campus/team counterparts to manage team participation as needed for key decisions and other strategic business planning activities.
Leads the business through transformational strategy moves and significant growth, owns senior staff processes and agendas, including follow-through and related communications to enable successful leadership of the organization.
Participates as a valued senior staff member and offers synthesized business perspectives relevant to influencing key strategic decisions.
Maximizes the effectiveness of the CPO by helping balance project and other priorities.
Drives strategic initiatives and provides thought leadership.
Identifies issues that impede business group success and provides solutions/recommendations.
Partners with HR to orchestrate team design conversations and facilitates successful implementation of organizational plans.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree preferably in business administration, purchasing, supply chain management or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Five years of related experience
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Must be effective at driving complex, multi-stakeholder processes and cross-team programs to desired results, while managing risk.
Must have the ability to work independently and must have strong problem solving skills and strong interpersonal and customer service skills, including the ability to foster relationships while maintaining compliance with policies and procedures.
Must be a team player and have the ability to balance multiple tasks at the same time.
Must demonstrate strong computer skills and have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must have demonstrated strong project management skills and analytical skills.
Must have a strong professional presence, and business acumen.
Master's degree in business administration, purchasing, supply chain management or a related field
Seven years of related experience
Six Sigma certification
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification
Experience in a higher education procurement environment
