The Oils research team is a highly respected group of analysts and managers producing market-leading research on the entire oil supply chain from crude supply through refining and fuels marketing to end-use demand. The team provides a large and diverse global client base with regularly updated data, models, analysis and opinion on markets, assets and companies. With presence in each of the main regional markets, we work closely together, as well as with other commodity teams at Wood Mackenzie, to produce globally consistent and integrated analysis. We strive to be close to our clients and focus on delivering an excellent service every day as we support them in their planning and decision making processes.
The Downstream Oil Analyst will be part of Wood Mackenzie's Oils research team. The focus of the role will be on developing and delivering world class analysis of downstream oil markets, assets and companies for Wood Mackenzie's subscription clients. This research will be delivered to clients in the form of data and written reports within the Downstream Oil Service, as well as presentations to clients and topical industry insight reports.
In particular the Analyst will become an authority on Wood Mackenzie's view of the fuels marketing and oil storage sectors in Europe and Africa, as well as regularly contributing to analysis on other markets in the EMEARC region.
The Analyst will work mainly with the oil and refining team in the UK, but will also provide support to Middle East, Asia and US analysts, and so should be confident working in a team across multiple locations. The remit will also include working with the sales team to engage with current and prospective clients to grow revenue, and potentially to work on bespoke projects with our Consulting team.
The role offers the opportunity for an individual to develop a broad range of analytical and forecasting skills, as well as deep knowledge of the downstream oil sector through interactions with senior analysts and clients. The successful candidate will also be required to work closely with other Wood Mackenzie research teams in upstream, energy and chemicals to produce integrated analysis of the oil and energy value chains.
Focus primarily on analysis of the downstream value chain for European markets, specifically the fuels marketing and oil product storage sectors Conduct robust analysis of all downstream oil value chain segments: refined oil product supply & demand, trade, storage & distribution, wholesale & retail Analyse fuels marketing prices and margins, providing commentary on monthly/annual trends and the underlying drivers of profitability across the vale chain Provide high quality, written analysis of downstream oil markets, assets and companies Develop relationships with industry contacts, data providers and clients. Present the market outlook to clients and prospects in meetings and via web-calls and where appropriate, engage with the press to build Wood Mackenzie's reputation Work with the product managers of the evolving suite of oil and refining research offerings to deliver high quality, timely content. Contribute to development plans for the products, providing ideas and support for enhancements and improvements Liaise with other analysts across Wood Mackenzie's business to support an integrated outlook on the energy and chemicals markets Respond to internal and external enquiries regarding downstream oil markets and refining assets in a timely and professional manner Provide analytical input to consulting mandates in conjunction with the consulting team Support the sales efforts of the global and European refining and chemicals research product offerings.
Knowledge and Experience
Qualified candidates will posses a strong knowledge of, and demonstrable interest in, the energy business, and in particular in the downstream oil sector, gained from relevant work experience. In addition, candidates must have:
