The Network and Communication Support Services team within the Enterprise Infrastructure division of the Michigan Medicine’s Health Information Technology and Services area is seeking a highly skilled and motivated individual to join our team to help design, grow, and support our wired and wireless network environment. The ideal candidate would have an extensive Cisco route/switch background, wireless experience supporting Cisco’s controllers access points. A candidate should have excellent knowledge of Ethernet, TCP/IP and routing, along with a solid understanding of DNS. A solid understanding of Cisco’s Identity Services Engine (ISE) is a plus.
Responsibilities include but not limited to the following areas:
Network Engineering: including actively participating in the evaluation of new wireless technologies, helping in the development of architectures and standards for wired and wireless network, creating comprehensive wired and wireless network designs for network upgrades and depreciated replacements.
Network Infrastructure Support: including responding to and resolving issues with the network environment, actively participating in the Major Incident processes, monitoring and managing the network infrastructure, performing performance analysis and reporting, optimizing network configurations.
Network Deployment: including physical installation wireless and wired networking or other equipment, configuration of switches and routers, fiber and copper connectivity, and managing complex network deployments and upgrades.
Complex technical problem solving: Lead initiatives to resolve complex technical issues across the enterprise. Working with different subject matter experts across UMHS and UM to identify and remediate underlying issues in the datacenters. Including but not limited to technical solutions, process procedures and standards.
Required for the Senior Level:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer science or equivalent experience
5 + years’ experience in managing and supporting Cisco complex network and security infrastructure in a large enterprise environment
Experience supporting Cisco wireless controllers
Solid understanding of 802.11a/b/g/n/AC, along with the 2.4 and 5GHz wireless spectrum
Solid understanding of 802.11 wireless security standards such as .1X, certificate authentication, WPA, WPA2, and WPA-PSK
Excellent knowledge and hands-on experience supporting and troubleshooting a wide variety of wireless devices
Solid Understanding of IP routing using static routes and OSPF
Experience with Splunk or other log aggregation tool is desirable
Experience supporting Cisco’s Mobility Services Engine (MSE) and RFID technologies
Solid understanding of software programing and shell scripting necessary for development and integration of monitoring and management tools
Experience supporting DNS in a large, complex environment
Experience in implementing new technologies in a large organization
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels within the organization
