Dr. Biju Parekkadan is a newly hired Associate Professor who will be formally starting at Rutgers-BME in January 2017. His laboratory specializes in cell, tissue, and gene therapy with a focus on the immune and hematologic systems. He is currently recruiting highly motivated postdoctoral fellows with interest in tissue engineering, bioreactor design, and transport phenomena to develop a new cell therapy platform. Applicants with experience with cell culture, molecular biology, flow cytometry, animal studies, and/or fluidic systems are highly encouraged. Those interested in translational research can learn how to manufacture cell therapies, conduct pre-clinical studies, and how to design/conduct clinical trials. Postdoctoral fellows will also be exposed to practical skills in regulatory science and on the preparation of biologic medicines under GMP guidelines. Responsibilities would include conducting lab experiments, support for the drafting manuscripts/grants/protocols/patents, and managing supply chain/equipment. This position would open up opportunities to develop an independent career in academe or industry.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Applicant must have a PhD, MD (or equivalent) in a biomedical science or engineering discipline. This includes Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Biology, Chemistry or related disciplines
Applicant must be able to independently conduct literature surveys and understand technical documents
Applicant must be computer literate with experience in data analysis, manuscript preparation, and technical writing
Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and experience with scientific collaboration
Regular work week may include evening and weekend hours
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
This position requires understanding of biology and conducting scientific experience. Experience with cell/tissue culture, flow cytometry, gene expression profiling, and mouse model development and testing are not required but highly desired.
Experience with Microsoft Office (or equivalent) tools for work processing, presentation preparation, and data analysis is required. Knowledge of software for statistical tools, visual aid preparation, and complex data analysis (eg FloJo) is desired.

Must be able to work in a lab environment including use of chemical and biological hazardous materials Must be comfortable conducting research with rodents and clear relevant medical tests Occasional lifting of boxes and other equipment that may exceed 30 lbs. Must learn and follow all relevant safety regulations associated with working in lab environment
