Academic Title: Associate or Full Professor (Ladder-Rank and In Residence) Description: mHealth and Related Technologies.
The Department of Family Medicine and Public Health (FMPH) at the University of California, San Diego's School of Medicine (http://fmph.ucsd.edu), is committed to academic excellence and diversity within the faculty, staff, and student body and invites applications for one or more faculty positions within the Division of Preventive Medicine and/or Behavioral Medicine with a focus on the application of mobile, social, and other new technologies in health and health care. The Department has need to recruit someone who has the breadth and depth of experience across many domains in health, as well as the capability to understand the broad range of technologies now being brought to bear on these problems. A range of experience is highly desirable for forging relationships between and among faculty across the campus. Applicant could also be considered for a leadership position in the Division or Department. Rank of appointment will be based on skills and qualifications of the candidate.
Faculty in the Department of Family Medicine and Public Health (FMPH) are engaged in teaching, research, and clinical initiatives that address a wide range of population-level problems and concerns. These include interventions that address social, behavioral, and public health issues such as obesity and smoking, many of which leverage consumer health technologies such as wearable devices, mobile phones, apps, social media (e.g. Facebook), as well as the personal health data that these technologies produce. Moreover, FMPH faculty have collaborated since 2004 with faculty from the Jacobs School of Engineering, The Qualcomm Institute, the Department of Cognitive Science, and others across the full UC San Diego campus to compete successfully for grants from the NIH Gene Environment Initiative, the NIH Big Data to Knowledge program, the National Science Foundation, and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) to conduct cutting edge research in the application of these new technologies to important health problems.
Candidates must have current funding and a proven track record in obtaining NIH (or comparable) funding and high productivity of impactful publication in the fields of mobile health, digital behavior change interventions, social networks, and health and other areas at the interface of health and technology. Candidates must have either an MD, with an MPH preferred, a PhD, or other applicable doctoral degree, and expertise in a technology-relevant field such as psychology, computer science, engineering, or cognitive science. Proven leadership ability is also required as successful candidates will be expected to lead campus-wide multidisciplinary efforts in technology and health. Depending upon the candidate's discipline, a secondary appointment within another Department at UC San Diego will be available and encouraged. The Department is interested in candidates who have demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service, which contribute to an equitable, inclusive, and diverse scholarly environment, including teaching and mentoring at the PhD and Master's level.
Appointment will be at the Associate or Full Professor rank. Series will include 100% Ladder Rank or 50% Ladder Rank / 50% In-Residence with secured extramural funding. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and based on University of California pay scales.
