The Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) and the Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies (CBITs), www.cbits.northwestern.edu, in the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University seek an outstanding scientist for a tenure-eligible position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. The successful candidate will be based within CBITs, with the faculty position in MSS. CBITs is a multidisciplinary center, including faculty with backgrounds in behavioral science, computer science, engineering, statistics, and implementation science focused. CBITs also has a software development facility that that has supported more than 60 funded projects (including 35 NIMH as well as others from PCORI, NSF and the DoD). CBITs’ mission is to develop, evaluate, and implement innovative eHealth/mHealth technologies. Core academic strengths of the center lie in mental health and wellness, however, the center has many collaborations across a broad range of health problems.
MSS provides a unique scientific home for applied researchers who integrate biomedical and social science approaches to improvement of health and health care delivery across the lifespan (www.mss.northwestern.edu). The department has a strong emphasis on transdisciplinary science and houses a number of health informatics, mental health and mind-body researchers who are synergistic with CBITs. Thus, MSS will provide an outstanding academic home for the candidate.
We are searching for an exceptional scientist to help build our research capacities in any of a number of diverse areas related to design, development, evaluation, and implementation of eHealth/mHealth technologies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated an innovative programmatic approach to his/her research, an outstanding record of scholarly publication, and a history of extramural funding. We are also looking for expertise that builds on existing strengths in digital mental health and builds new bridges across CBITs and MSS, as well as with other schools in Northwestern, such as Engineering, Communications, and Education and Social Policy. For example, scientists with expertise in real world implementation of ehealth/mHealth interventions using patient-reported outcomes or computational models of implementation in complex systems would be of great interest. CBITs and MSS have highly collaborative cultures in which multiple investigators work in tandem on large-scale, team science research. A critical consideration will be the extent to which the candidate’s focus is synergistic with ongoing CBITs and MSS research and culture of collaboration. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a strong body of independent research; submit grant applications as principal investigator; publish research results in leading peer-reviewed sources; collaborate broadly across Northwestern and beyond; mentor trainees and/or faculty as appropriate; and contribute to CBITs, MSS, and the University through service.
Applicants may have a doctoral degree in any of a variety of fields, including psychology, medicine, computer science, or engineering, and must have a strong record of federal funding and scholarly productivity.
