The University of Washington Athletics Department is searching for a technical lead to grow our database management ecosystem and create code to develop and improve our database systems. The incumbent will work directly with the CIO to support our business verticals, sports, administrative staff, and coaches. The goals will be to create systems that support end users' needs, leverage technology to provide a competitive advantage, and increase return on investment (ROI) through data management. This position will report to the Chief Technology Officer and has indirect reporting to the Director of Information Technology.
The ICA Database Developer will lead the UW Athletics Department in future endeavors of application development, customer relationship management (CRM), related analytics and overall database management. The incumbent will participate in regular deep dive discussions on leveraging an assortment of technologies and resources not only from the university but also the various vendors known and unknown. The developer will also provide analytics to the senior management for high level decisions as well as provide analytics for daily operations decisions.
The database developer supports our existing database instances and participates in their design, implementation, optimization, and ongoing management and maintenance. This role is vital to meeting UW Athletics' needs for application scalability, availability, and performance. The developer needs a wide range of experience as they will be called upon to interact with a number of business and sporting units; but they must maintain an enterprise-wide view of data accessibility and integrity as a vital business asset.
Provide the lead on daily operations and upgrades of current and future database designs and implementation, additionally provide guidance for 3rd party upgrades and investigate the future possibilities to solve the consistently developing needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Responsible for designing, modeling, developing and supporting Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) and data warehouses.
Analyze data requirements, application and processing architectures, data dictionaries, and database schema(s), and then design, develop, amend, optimize, and certify database schema design to meet system(s) requirements.
Gather, analyze, and document analyze ICA business requirements to create user centered design systems for stakeholders.
Design, develop and troubleshoot stored procedures, queries, within legacy databases to facilitate support and system migration.
Support database needs for marketing, ticketing, finance, compliance, donor management, and collegiate sports.
Provide excellent customer service for internal users and collaborate with external partners.
Performs duties associated with data stewardship, data security, data integration, and data standards.
Create systems to automate everyday tasks for end users tasks while providing redundancy and auto backup procedures for data sets and databases.
Strong communicator and works independently, as well as in a team environment
Develop, review, and implement data manipulations (DML) and data definition (DDL) changes to support application requirements.
Participates in the capacity planning and implementation of new database instances to meet operational needs.
Maintain comprehensive documentation and standards on production database environments.
Identify and evaluate database software and cloud based technologies.
Develop and implement preventive maintenance techniques and procedures for all data intrinsic technical services and systems.
Manage projects and maintain accurate and complete files, records and other documents relating to assigned responsibilities. Administer documentation of changes made to all systems.
Submit purchase requisitions for management approval.
Provide support for the internal ticketing system and fund development donor system. Train users on related software applications.
Perform related duties and special projects as assigned.
Compliance with the rules and regulations of the University, the NCAA, the Pac-12 Conference, the State of Washington and any other governing body is of paramount importance to the University. Bachelor's Degree in computer science, engineering, or related technical discipline. A minimum of three to four years of experience in project management supporting medium-large enterprise data management systems or equivalent education/experience. Experience in IT development, project management, and related analytical fields. Three to four years of development experience utilizing computer programming languages, power scripting with a deep understanding of data schema and architecture. An understanding of SQL, SQL Server, MySQL, Tableau, MS Access, and PHP environments. Experience with setup up and creation of ODBC connections for enterprise data warehouses and web based applications. Familiarity with GUI based software analytics applications e.g. Tableau, SPSS. Business Intelligence (BI) data architecture and an advanced knowledge in designing, developing, and implementing data warehouse and business intelligence solutions. Deep understanding of system architecture.
Firm understanding of project management and goal orientated timelines. Big data, and data warehouse experience. High level of problem solving abilities. Experience with SalesForce CRM, Microsoft Azure, and back-end application development/integration. Experience in programming environments such as C#, C++, Java, Drupal, Visual Basic. Understanding of ticketing systems e.g. Lutz, Spectra/Paciolan. Strong knowledge of data schema, enterprise business intelligence systems. The ability to assess enterprise related data management needs and provide recommendations for system improvement and communication to cross-functional teams.
