Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree plus a minimum 5 years of relevant experience in materials management (preferably in a hospital or healthcare related environment), which includes at least 2 years of experience in an administrative/supervisory capacity overseeing a multi-shift materials management operation, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Experience implementing and managing on-line productivity tools, procuring and managing supplies and experience managing major contracts required. Excellent written/oral communication, time management, and organizational skills required. Must be very customer focused and have the ability to quickly establish and maintain productive working relationships with customers. Must be available for off hours support calls as well as provide off-shift coverage as necessary to include direct staff supervision, participation in off hours staff meetings and employee counseling sessions. Experience with O.R. Materials and defining and using metrics for performance evaluation, productivity and quality preferred. Experience with Lawson system and the state procurement system preferred. Management in a unionized, service delivery setting strongly preferred.
Job Standard / Operational Needs: The Director of O.R. Materials will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the O.R. Materials Department at SUNY Upstate Medical University. Duties include, but are not limited to, managing the entire OR supply chain, including purchasing, receiving, inventory management, case picking, tray management, repairs, billing CDM's, and tissue distribution throughout the entire perioperative continuum, managing staff in both locations, including setting employee goals, performance management, and hiring, and managing the entire perioperative supply budget, which includes negotiating contracts with vendors and achieving VAP annual savings target. The Director will also efficiently manage the demand for new supply items and implants by working closely with the clinical staff and VAP to cost effectively manage the inflow, as well as co-chair the OR Value Analysis committee to assist with coordinating the selection, trialing, and implementation of new OR-specific supplies, implant, and equipment. The Director will constantly reassess current practices and challenge the status quo to ensure products are provided in the most efficient manner possible.
