The Business Communication Program in the Naveen Jindal School of Management at The University of Texas at Dallas seeks well-qualified Lecturers to teach Business Communication and/or Professional Development undergraduate courses beginning in August 2018. A master’s degree in Communication, English, or Business Communication will typically be acceptable for teaching these courses but substantial professional experience in a business communication or professional field may also qualify some applicants. A record of effective and engaging college teaching in an institution similar to UT Dallas is preferred.
Business Communication courses (BCOM 3310 and BCOM 4350) in the Jindal School of Management focus on helping students develop the writing, speaking, and interpersonal skills that will help them advance their career. The courses are either business writing-intensive or business speaking-intensive and applicants should clearly describe the educational background or professional experience they have in either or both of these subjects.
Professional Development courses (*3100 and *3200) are taken either by second-semester first-year students or by entering transfer students and designed to introduce them both to their chosen major and to the rigorous academic and professional development expectations of the Jindal School of Management. These courses are segregated by major and so applicants will be assessed on their ability to provide experience-based motivation and professional insight into one of the following fields: Marketing, Finance, Accounting, Global Business, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Health Care Management, and Supply Chain Management. The Professional Development courses have a strong business communication theme so applicants who want to teach them should describe their professional experience/qualifications as writers, speakers, and business communicators. Ideal candidates will have extensive professional experience in their field, university teaching experience, and a commitment to developing students into young professionals.
An earned graduate degree appropriate to the academic discipline/topic and a record of productivity and professional achievement.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master’s degree in Communication-related field or MBA. Two years’ experience teaching Business Communication OR professional experience in a communication or career development-related role.
