This recruitment will be used to fill one full-time temporary Biological Sciences Research Tech 1 position for the Extension Lake County office at Oregon State University (OSU). This position will be located in Lakeview, Oregon.
The temp Biological Sciences research Tech 1 performs duties requiring specialized technical and manual skills in support of units involved in agriculture, forestry, or food science research. Work performed includes animal, poultry, and fish care; various farming operations; plant care; and routine building, ground, and equipment maintenance.
This position will assist on research projects through Oregon State University, and within the high desert region of eastern Oregon. Projects are landscape based and involve data collection on sagebrush steppe sites and meadow systems. Annually invaded and perennially occupied grass sites will be examined in light of habitat connectivity for sage grouse populations. Duties include data collection on site, with a focus on insect collection with pit fall traps and net sweeps, vegetation data collection, raptor counts, navigation with GPS system, and processing of grass samples. This position requires travel, some camping, the ability to work independently and as part of a team, work around grazing cattle, and an interest in habitat and animal interactions.
Two years of college-level courses in (specific field of biological science); OR an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Must be able to lift objects that weigh up to 50 pounds including a backpack, and must be able to hike on rugged and steep terrain.
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions.
The ability to work independently and as part of a team.
This position requires driving a University vehicle or a personal vehicle on behalf of the University; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History Check, possess and maintain a current, valid driver’s license in their state of residence, be determined to be position qualified and self-report convictions (as per Voluntary and Compulsory Driver Standards OAR 125-155-0200) as per OAR 576-056-0000 et seq.
