Brown Universityâ™s Computing & Information Services department seeks an outstanding Business Intelligence Developer to join our BI team.
About the team
The Business Intelligence team supports a heterogeneous analytics environment that includes two enterprise business intelligence platforms, IBM Cognos Analytics and Tableau Server, and many data repositories.
We provide end-to-end data and analytics services to Brown administrators who access these platforms to create, view, and securely share content that enables Brownâ™s daily operations and informs its decision-making. We gather requirements and design and develop BI and data warehouse solutions, including logical data models, physical data models, ETL processes, semantic data models, parameterized reports, OLAP cubes, data visualizations, and dashboards. We maintain these solutions and offer training and support to our large user community.
Our current focus is on improving access to data by integrating data that now resides in silos and broadly enabling self-service analytics.
What you will do in this role
You will get to know many Brown administrators, learn about their business processes and information needs, and translate what you learn into data requirements. You will design and develop BI deliverables such as requirements documents, data models, reports, data visualizations, and dashboards. You will troubleshoot problems, respond to user requests for assistance, participate in peer review of colleaguesâ™ work, test upgrades, lead BI projects, and evaluate software. You will represent the BI team on cross-functional project teams and committees. You will collaborate closely with BI, data science, and other colleagues, although you will work quite independently at times. You will learn, and you will teach. You will be busy and never bored. You will help Brown use data to pursue its mission more effectively.
