The Associate Vice-President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer effectively engages with the campus community in IT decision-making and delivers a high level of service and satisfaction. This position is responsible for setting and implementing IT strategies, developing and leading a diverse, high-performing IT team while creating operations that are strong on service and project execution. The AVP/CIO reports to the President and is a member of the President’s Senior Leadership Team. This position oversees 18 FTE IT staff and an annual operating budget of $3.3M.
Supports teaching and learning; engages with organizational strategic planning; revises and improves business processes and oversees business intelligence
Manages foundational IT infrastructure systems and support via a responsive organization; adapts infrastructure and organization structure to meet changing needs of business
Ensures security and accuracy of institutional data; aligns IT services and projects with the needs of the institution; manages portfolio of existing applications and invests in strategic new applications; identifies and coordinates/manages the overall strategic direction of IT, IT services and information management as well as the related institutional effectiveness thereof
Integrates all internal and external systems
Champions computer use and understanding by all users; educator of employees regarding IT innovations bringing value to the organization
Partners with CUS universities – in leveraging system buying power, resource sharing, and technical expertise sharing
Manages relationships with appropriate vendors, negotiates and oversees all IT related contracts
Supports and engages in professional organizations; participates in national higher education IT initiatives; remains current in industry trends.
Superior analytical skills using data driven decision making, data warehousing and other analytical tools
Thorough knowledge of enterprise business processes and the integration of support technology for teaching, learning, administration, CRM, enrollment, student services, foundation, finance & financial aid, government and research reporting, etc.
Exceptional communication skills: verbal, written and presentation
Exceptional project management skills
Minimum Experience Required:
10 years of experience as a strategic IT leader at an accredited university, planning and leading technology projects
5 - 10 years of Higher Education ERP experience with one of the leading ERP commercial systems, Ellucian Banner and Blackboard as a faculty platform preferred
10 years of experience managing IT staff, large budgets, contracts with vendors in support of IT projects
Comprehensive knowledge of current hardware: types of servers, networks, security systems, desktops, laptops and copier/printers: technology projects; comprehensive analytical
Teaching experience, online or face to face, preferred
Masters in Computing or related field required, PhD preferred
