The Nurse Manager Acute Care Services is responsible for the management of nursing practice and operations on the Med Surg, Swing Bed, ICU, and Observation Units. This includes, but is not limited to, the management of: nursing practice, staff recruitment, retention, supply chain and budget, staffing, employee performance evaluation, quality improvement, staff education, medical records documentation, internal and external regulatory and survey requirements.
The Nurse Manager collaborates with multiple professionals to support and coordinate the provision and management of patient care. She/he works closely with the Director of Nursing Services, Physician Leadership and staff in insuring that the Units maintain the highest standards of patient care. The Nurse Manager is responsive to the needs of the patient & family as well as the organization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Is responsible for departmental coverage 24/7. Commits to the hours needed to achieve outcomes and develops others to assure round the clock leadership. Flexing hours worked as staff to meet departmental needs will satisfy the required full-time hours.
Responsible to act as the clinical expert and be a resource for staff around the clock, functioning alongside staff as needed.
Responsible to respond immediately to department / facility emergencies unless coverage has been previously arranged.
Staffs department in clinical role on a regular basis.
Purposefully conducts all aspects of the job in an ethical manner in support of LHC’s commitment to the Standards of Excellence in all areas of personal and professional activity.
Maintains current knowledge of trends and advances in nursing practice, assuring patients are receiving current standards of care.
Responsible to ensure adherence to all state and federal regulations.
Works closely with risk management to identify and mitigate areas of risk; evaluating, initiating and documenting change in processes as needed.
Hardwires patient rounding by teaching and incorporating Studer principles to ensure consistent contact with patients and ensuring that the needs of patients are met.
Provides service recovery as needed, promptly responding to patient concerns with compassion, kindness, empathy and patience.
Develops education programs in conjunction with Staff Development Coordinator to assist the staff in the progression from novice to expert.

Compiles data for submission for quality initiatives as required by CMS, MDPPHS and other governing bodies. Seeks out opportunities for process improvement based on current patient satisfaction scores to ensure quality outcomes.
Utilizes patient satisfaction scores to identify successes and opportunities for performance improvement while consistently providing feedback and education to staff.
Develops and maintains departmental policies and procedures to ensure adherence to professional and legal standards, quality of service, fiscal control, and customer relations.
Oversees supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, training, discipline, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Develops education programs designed to assist the staff nurse in the progression from novice to expert in the practice of nursing.
Promotes and monitors regulatory agency standards and customer service expectations for the practice of all aspects of nursing.
Responsible for interviewing and hiring.
Review HCAHPS scores and provide feedback to staff for areas of improvement. Assess customer service by reviewing and responding to patient satisfaction surveys and providing feedback to staff.
Reviews risk management reports, as appropriate. Initiates and documents appropriate corrective actions. Participates in root cause analysis, as appropriate
Writes up staff huddles/talking points weekly and is presented every day in staff huddle before each shift
Develops and manages unit budget, proactively developing methods to improve financial performance. Demonstrates ability to interpret financial data as a means to determine appropriate intervention strategy. Maintains awareness of understanding of financial tools available.
Facilitates staff growth by identifying areas of interest and facilitating cross training to other departments

Performs other duties as deemed necessary to meet the hospital’s mission, serving through quality healthcare.
Bachelor’s in Nursing Degree, current active in good standing Montana RN license.
ACLS, PALS, BLS certification, or able to achieve within one year of hire.
Experience in nursing management.
ADDITIONAL DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s in Nursing Degree
Five years nurse management experience
