Reporting to the VP, Taxes, the Director of Income Taxes is responsible for the global planning and financial reporting aspects of Grainger’s global income tax function, including initiating and implementing domestic and international tax strategies, leading/steering/participating in global tax examinations, as needed. He/She will direct Grainger’s income tax financial reporting pursuant to ASC 740. This individual will work collaboratively with other tax department and non-tax department personnel with respect to project analysis, implementation, reporting and documentation. Highly visible, this role involves direct contact with senior management, business partners (i.e. Operations, Finance, Legal, Investor Relations, etc.) and multiple external tax consultants.
BS in Accounting, Finance or related disciple required. CPA and advanced degree (Master’s in Taxation of JD) is strongly preferred.
10+ years of progressive experience in income taxes including compliance and tax accounting in public accounting and/or a corporate tax department required. Big 4 tax experience managing multi-national clients a plus.
Track record of tax planning for dynamic, growth oriented and global businesses, including M&A required; foreign tax credit planning, tax efficient supply chain and finance structure planning a plus.
Knowledge and experience in US federal income taxes; international tax knowledge or experience a plus.
Highly proficient in and knowledgeable of financial accounting and reporting aspects of taxation per US GAAP (ASC 740).
Hands-on experience with running scalable US GAAP income tax accounting models and tax reporting software required; CorpTax knowledge and automating tax accounting and reconciliation processes a plus.
Strong ERP system skills required, SAP preferred.
