<p>POSITION DESCRIPTION</p><p>Title: Extension Educator - Agriculture Production Systems, Crops</p><p>Position: Funded by Benton, Morrison, & Stearns counties. Position is open until filled.</p><p><br />ABOUT THE COUNTIES </p><p>Stearns, Benton, and Morrison Counties are located in Central Minnesota. Agriculture is one of the largest industries in the three counties, accounting for market values of $446,681,000 from crop production and $959,255,000 from livestock production. Agriculture in these counties includes corn, soybeans alfalfa, grass hay, small grains, and vegetable crops. Many acres of crop production are livestock feedstuffs to support the livestock industry.</p><p>ABOUT THIS POSITION</p><p>This Extension Educator will primarily focus on providing education and support for crop education programs that are relevant to the local communities in all three counties Education and support includes local program development, teaching, marketing, evaluation, coordination logistics and participation in scholarly research. A majority of time and effort is focused on crop education efforts. Special effort will be required to maintain competency in multiple Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) discipline areas as well as knowledge of local/federal/state related programs. Emphasis areas with this position include corn, soybean, small grain, and alfalfa production. Other valuable areas of emphasis include knowledge of precision agriculture and pesticide safety.</p><p>This position is accountable to the AFNR Program Leader for North Local Positions in AFNR for program direction, performance evaluation and personnel actions in her/his supervisory role. </p><p>RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS</p><p>*Develop and maintain effective regional, university and state partnerships that further the development and delivery of Extension AFNR educational programs.<br />*Develop, manage and deliver local AFNR programs based on local needs and expectations. Engage with farmers, agricultural professionals, and stakeholders to build rapport.<br />*Design, develop, deliver/implement and evaluate educational programs based in scholarly/scientific theory and research, and appropriate to audience.<br />*Provide technical assistance and information in the areas of crop production based on local needs and expectations. Respond to local needs based around identified needs.<br />*Conduct scholarly research in collaboration with University faculty.<br />*Continue professional development in scholarship, program development and delivery via conferences, additional graduate work, self-directed study and other appropriate means of maintaining a high level of expertise.<br />*Work in partnership with United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) agencies, Soil and Water Conservation Districts (SWCD), county environmental services, and agricultural professional organizations to provide educational program relevant to the counties. <br />*Work in collaboration with an Extension Educator working in the area of livestock and an Extension Educator working in the area of horticulture in Stearns, Benton, and Morrison Counties.<br />*Engage with local agricultural groups, which could include forage councils, corn growers, soybean growers, wheat growers, etc.<br />*Use technology for program communication, trend monitoring, and locating information.<br />*Foster and contribute to a positive work climate with colleagues, advisory groups, audiences and partnerships.<br />*Ensure that Extension programs, facilities, committees, and employment opportunities are accessible to new, diverse, and historically underserved audiences.<br />*Participate and succeed in progress regarding your professional performance including the systems of annual performance review, professional plan of work and promotion.<br />*Make contributions to whichever of the seven internal promotion criteria are relevant for the position and its specific responsibilities.</p><p>APPOINTMENT/BENEFITS</p><p>1. The Extension Educator position has an annual University academic professional appointment. Renewal is dependent on local funding, program need, performance, and results.<br />2. <p>REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS</p><p>Education: Bachelor’s degree is required; Master’s degree is preferred. At least one degree in an agriculture related discipline is required, i.e. agronomy, soils, livestock production, agricultural economics, and/or agricultural education.</p><p>Experience: Previous experience as an Extension professional or other educationally related position (within agriculture production systems) is preferred.</p><p>Required Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and stakeholders. Basic computer skills and ability to use Microsoft office programs such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated commitment to diversity and inclusion. Ability to use technology for communication, information finding, program delivery and reporting. <br />Preferred Skills/Abilities: Current knowledge in manure management, nutrient management, and/or current agriculture technology. Commitment to ongoing professional development and ability to articulate public value of educational programming in agriculture and natural resources. </p>
