Virgin Orbit (VO) is seeking a new member for our team to serve as Commodity/Category Manager. If you join us in this position, you will play a significant role in identifying and sourcing the equipment, supplies, and services necessary to support the LauncherOne small satellite launch program. The ideal candidate should be familiar with aerospace requirements and the supporting supply base. This role will be key in implementing strategic initiatives that align with the Supply Chain goals and objectives. The Commodity/Category Manager is responsible for reviewing, vetting and generating documents to support complex purchase requests, including requests for quotes, bids, proposals, complex one-time orders, and complex multi-term orders in accordance with Virgin Orbit policies and procedures. This role is for a hands-on person with great attention to detail and excellent people skills. This is a full time position at our rocket factory in beautiful Long Beach, California.
•Identify, on-board and develop qualified suppliers
•5+ years working with Procurement, Production and Production Planning managers, as well as with the Engineering team, to determine current and future purchasing needs.
•Identify commodity/category requirements and corresponding supplier base
•Provide input on new suppliers’ capability and capacity
•Monitor supplier performance and financial standing and coordinate supplier metrics
•Advise and represent supplier negotiations and resolutions
•Analyse reports to obtain current information concerning all phases of procurement to control budget, procurement objectives, and effective procurement techniques.
•Monitor quantity and quality of work in assigned group, review buying activity, collaborate with commodity specialists and buyers and provide feedback to same; identify raise opportunities and recommend/discuss solutions with the Purchasing team
•Maintain records in accordance with established policies and procedures and audit guidelines.

•Minimum of a Bachelor's degree
•Possess an established track record of procuring complex systems and structures, especially within an aviation or manufacturing setting.
•Ability to establish long term agreements, blanket agreements, and negotiate favorable terms and conditions.
•Ability to interpret engineering, production and quality requirements and establish Statements of Work, and or Sub-contracts.
•Ability to evaluate procurement bids in accordance with established criteria.
•Ability to assess contract compliance and product/service quality.
•Ability and willingness to thrive in a fast-paced, rapidly changing work environment

•Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and interpretation of goals and objectives
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, start-up environment
