The Axia Institute is a premier research and education facility dedicated to developing effective and sustainable solutions to enhance public and private value chain performance. The Axia Institute was established in 2013 in partnership with Michigan State University (MSU), the Dow Chemical Company, and local Midland, MI foundations. The Institute builds on MSU’s strong interdisciplinary research capabilities by linking faculty from the Eli Broad College of Business, Colleges of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engineering, and Social Sciences, on such important topics such as resource management, analytics, security, and sustainability.
The Department of Supply Chain Management in the Eli Broad College of Business at Michigan State University invites applications for a fixed-term research faculty position in the area of Supply Chain Digitization particularly focusing on entrepreneurial activities, and bringing technology to market.
This is a multi-year renewable research appointment through the Axia Institute: Delivering Value Chain Solutions to be located in Midland, MI. This position requires that a significant portion of salary support be secured from external sources.
Develop a self-funding project portfolio
Define and implement a research program in the area of Supply Chain Digitization, which encompasses the advanced use of the latest digital and communication technology for supply chain optimization through integration, and automation of business processes with initial focus in the health care segment
Deliver “proof-of-concept” innovative technology with a clear path towards commercialization that complements the vision and mission of the Axia Institute
Develop an externally funded project portfolio through national and international agencies (NSF, NIH, SBIR, etc.), state and local agencies (MDARD, MTRAC, MEDC, etc.), fellowship grants, private industry funding, and Venture and Angel capital funding
Lead multi-discipline project teams
Plan, organize, execute, motivate and control resources to achieve the specific objectives of sponsored research projects on time and within budget
Network internally within MSU’s Eli Broad College of Business, College of Engineering, College of Agriculture and Natural Resource, Department of Packaging, A-CAPP, etc. to develop relationships with future co-PIs
Outreach to other universities and professional organization to supplement internal capabilities and develop relationships with potential collaborators
Develop relationships with key resources provided within MSU to enhance success in external grant proposals. Additionally, reach out to program officers and agency experts to understand the current and future needs of relevant funding platforms
Build an external network of private industry technical peers for potential collaboration. Also, be the conduit for a larger relationship of the company to become an Institute partner
Doctorate -Supply Chain Management
Applicants must have an earned PhD in Supply Chain Management, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or another closely related scientific discipline, or equivalent work history.
The filling of the position will be at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level depending on the qualifications and record of the successful candidate.
