Amherst County, Virginia is seeking an experienced and innovative manager to serve as the director of the Public Works department. The Public Works Department includes four divisions – Solid Waste, Facilities Maintenance, Community Enhancement and Fleet Management. The County operates five convenience centers, a two hundred acre landfill, fifteen facilities and five parks. With a team of thirty dedicated employees, the Public Works Director ensures that the County meets all state and federal requirements and county assets are appropriately operated and maintained.
Successful candidates must possess a bachelor’s degree in public works, engineering or a related field with significant experience in landfill operations, facilities and/or fleet management, and staff supervision. Licensure as a Waste Management Facilities Operator Class I/Class II in accordance with Virginia standards is required. Past experience in successfully managing a diverse range of operational functions similar to those contained within Amherst County’s current department structure is a strong consideration. Direct technical experience in the areas above is also an important factor.
