The Buyer is responsible for purchasing complex components and maintaining an open line of communication from a variety of suppliers as well as working cross-functionally within the company on topics such as component issues, costing or invoicing concerns, receiving inspections, and engineering changes. Additionally, the Buyer is responsible for continuously working with suppliers to improve on-time delivery and work to continuously improve inventory turns and look for cost reduction opportunities. This position reports directly to the Purchasing Manager.
Utilize standard purchasing processes and strategies to maintain optimal level of inventory.
Support direction and strategies regarding supplier demand forecasting, supplier capacity planning, supply base inventory management, supplier replenishment and procurement transactions.
Consistently and aggressively monitor part usages and inventory levels and keep inventory levels updated to reflect current demand.
Evaluate manufacturing and distribution requirements, plan material procurement and execute method of purchase.
Review supplier bid proposals, negotiate contracts, blanket orders, and long term purchase agreements and contracts within budgetary limitations and scope of authority.
Recommend cost savings including make-versus-buy analysis, alternative sourcing, step pricing for volume discounts, and vendor evaluation criteria.
Actively pursue the elimination of waste in the supply chain by eliminating non valued added steps in the process, improving quality, and championing standardization.
Reduce vendor lead time work aggressively to improve inventory turns.
Work with the purchasing manager on supplier scorecard by recording performance statistics, and take proactive action to solve problems and mitigate risk in meeting delivery schedules.
Maintain procurement records within the operating system.
Work with quality on resolving supplier quality issues,
Ensuring proper internal parties are informed of issues related to assigned commodities.
Enter purchase orders and forward to vendors.
Other activities as required.
Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred.
3+ years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
APICS, CPM, or CPSM certification a plus.
Experienced with ERP and other materials management tools.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
MS Office & working knowledge of Visual Manufacturing a plus.
Able to read and interpret blueprints.
Excellent negotiations skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Analyze situations and recommend appropriate action.
