The Clinical Research Training and Development Specialist is an experienced research professional who is enthusiastic about research and has a desire to provide high quality training opportunities for the University of Minnesota and MHealth research workforce. The Clinical Research Training and Development Specialist will help develop, manage and carry out online and in-person training programs through the CTSI’s Translational Workforce Development (TWD) Program with the goal of improving the efficiency, quality, and ethics of research through training in human research conduct.
Essential Functions or Job Duties
Program and Event Management (40%) o Coordinates monthly lunch and learns for clinical staff at the CSC. o Provides ongoing training for clinical and research staff working in clinical settings (i.e. CSC, CRU, Maple Grove). o Plan and coordinate an annual symposium for research professionals. o Work with the TWD Administrative Assistant to coordinate research training seminars. o Manages all aspects of training program logistics (space, registration, materials, etc). o Tracks and delivers on key milestones to ensure timelines are met. o Tracks program metrics and participates in ongoing evaluation of the program.
Program and Curriculum Development (30%) o With direction from the Workforce Development Program Manager, design training programs to meet the current and emerging needs of the research workforce o Collaborate with CTSI, MHealth, Fairview and UMP to provide up-to-date training and materials for research workforce. o Develop content material to present at bi-weekly Clinical Research Professional Development seminar. o Work with curriculum technologist to develop and update online training modules o Provides subject matter expertise to assist the Translational Workforce Development (TWD) manager in developing materials and training for the research workforce. o Plans learning experiences and assignments.
Face-to-Face Training (30%) o Provides high quality face-to-face training to clinical research professionals to achieve the TWD goal of improving the efficiency, quality, and ethics of research through training in clinical research conduct. o Collaborates with the TWD manager to prepare curricula, course plans, learning materials, assignments and activities for in-person training courses.

Required Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in a health related field plus 5 years of experience in coordinating and/or managing in human research projects or an advanced degree plus 3 years of experience in coordinating and/or managing in human research projects or a combination of related education and work experience to equal nine years. • Demonstrated/documented excellent interpersonal and communication skills. • Demonstrated expertise in Good Clinical Practice (GCP), research ethics, regulations and study management. • Demonstrated experience in providing effective in-person training. • Demonstrated ability to provide constructive, effective feedback in real-time. • Maintains a positive professional attitude. • Demonstrated leadership skills in problem solving, decision-making, priority setting, delegation of responsibility and in being accountable. • Demonstrated/documented excellent presentation skills. • Demonstrated/documented excellent computer skills in Microsoft Suite and Google.
Preferred Qualifications • Experience providing high quality mentoring or precepting to new employees. • Supervisory experience. • Experience with program evaluation and metrics. • Experience with online learning management systems (i.e. Moodle or Canvas). • Working knowledge of online course authoring programs (i.e. Articulate 360).
