<p>Position Overview / Responsibilities:</p><div><strong>Field Support - 70%</strong></div><ol><li><div>Assists in the design of experiments, plot design and planning for treatments and data collection.</div></li><li><div>Independently plans and prepare plots for planting by disking, plowing, measuring, and marking them. Seeds plots with hand seeder, grain drills, row crop planters and other specialized seeding equipment.</div></li><li><div>Participates in and/or coordinates the care of experimental plots by fertilizing, weeding, hoeing, spraying them for weeds, disease and insect control. Cultivates or mows alleys and roadways adjoining plots.</div></li><li><div>Samples soils and plants for nutrients and biological organisms.</div></li><li><div>Selects and harvests representative samples of plants, seed.</div></li><li><div>Collects research data through sampling and note taking on plant populations, plant heights, yields, test weights, crop development (e.g. silking dates), tillage, planting, harvest, fertilizer and pesticide applications. Keep detailed records of experiments and procedures in lab notebooks and spreadsheets.</div></li><li><div>Inventories and places orders for plot supplies, fertilizer, herbicides and equipment.</div></li><li><div>Calibrates plot equipment including fertilizer spreaders, pesticide application equipment, planters and drills.</div></li><li><div>Calibrates and utilizes precision agriculture equipment including RTK and aerial drone.</div></li><li><div>Work independently in supervising temporary employees observing progress and outcomes and following established procedures and guidelines.</div></li></ol><p><strong>Data Management - 20%</strong></p><ol><li>Manages data entry and performs basic data analysis, organize and interpret results.</li><li>Maintains records for studies</li></ol><p><strong>General responsibilities and support - 10%</strong></p><ol><li>Participates in interviewing and assisting in supervision of summer students.</li><li>Assists and work as part of a team with other SWROC employees.</li><li>Assist in research projects led by other Research and Outreach Center and Campus faculty.</li><li>Participates in required safety and other training for SWROC staff.</li></ol><p><br /><br /> </p>
<p>Required Qualifications</p><ol><li>Bachelor's degree with a major in an agricultural field and one (1) year of research experience, or an equivalent combination of related education and/or research experience totaling five (5) years.</li><li>Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office: including converting documents into pdf, designing and manipulating tables and graphs, reviewing documents, creating formulas in a spreadsheet and manipulating graphs.</li><li>Experience managing a workload consisting of multiple projects.</li><li>Experience preparing, drafting, editing, and proofing correspondence and documents for distribution.</li></ol><p>Desired Qualifications</p><ol><li>Proficiency in ARM Software used to manage and summarize agriculture research experiments.</li><li>Three years research experience.</li></ol>
