Brown University Computing and Information Services seeks a qualified Senior Network Engineer to join the Network Team.
Brown University has an immediate opening for an experienced and highly qualified Senior Network Engineer. This member of the Network Engineering Team is responsible for the planning, designing and implementation of new and emerging technologies. This includes staying current with latest industry trends and providing recommendations to their management team. This position should also have extensive knowledge of software defined networking (SDN) and its features and capabilities. This role will help develop the migration strategy to move to a SDN model, create documentation and troubleshoot as needed. Responsibilities also include providing support for ticket escalation from the Network Operations Team and ensure tickets are resolved in a timely manner.
BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems or equivalent education and experience
5 years of IT experience including a minimum of 3 years of NOC experience or work involving level 2 support responsibilities
Cisco certification is preferred
Thorough knowledge of routing protocols (eg. BGP, OSPF) and wireless technologies
Experience writing scripts for automation of tasks using languages like Python with an understanding of vendor supplied APIs.
Familiar with software defined networking and network function virtualization using open flow (or equivalent) based devices and controllers
Familiar with concepts of hybrid switch technology and strategies for migrating to Software Defined Networking or Network Function Virtualization.
Ability to communicate technical issues to non-technical staff, faculty and students.
Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize activities
Strong problem-solving skills and packet capture analysis
Strong project management and organizational skills.Must be able to independently lead cross-functional project teams.
Expert knowledge of network fundamentals including network protocols, server and desktop environments, network hardware and software, and network management tools.
