The Network Engineer works on a team in support of our core services. Reporting to the Director of Network Engineering, participates in the design, implementation, and support of the network services of HUIT's IT infrastructure.
Works closely with peer Network Engineers, Network Architect, Network Operations, DevOps, Controls and Instrumentation and Platform teams, as well as key IT stakeholders throughout the University.
Contributes to network related projects from design to implementation and operations (PDIO) within a dynamic network infrastructure, as well as create and maintain appropriate documentation infrastructure, standards and projects.
Proactively examine, investigate, and study our network systems in order to improve the reliability and performance of HUIT's Core network services.
Provide daily engineering support of the HUIT network infrastructure.
Work with Harvard IT providers to solve technical/infrastructure client issues.
Procure network hardware and software; manage network inventory and asset tracking
All members of the team are encouraged to explore new technologies.
HUIT supports ongoing professional development including conference attendance, course work and experimentation.
Participation in a 24 x 7 x 365 on-call rotation schedule is required.

Union: 00 - Non Union, Exempt or Temporary
Bachelor's degree in computer science or similar areas of study and / or a minimum of 2-3 years demonstrated technical network experience in a large multivendor LAN/WAN environment
Knowledge of Network Management Systems products is a plus
Industry certifications for network implementation or equivalent professional experience desirable
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical staff as part of a cross functional team. Experience with current best practices in IT standards (ITIL), principles, and security practices
Ability to develop custom scripts in python/perl is a plus
Ability to remain flexible and adapt within a changing environment
This position requires the ability to occasionally lift and install network and server equipment of approximately 70lbs
