IT Services (ITS) at Iowa State is seeking applicants for a Security Architect. This position will help define, architect and oversee implementation of security of campus systems including network and endpoint devices. This role has responsibility for serving as a subject matter expert in Next-Generation Firewall products (NGFW) and malware sandboxing. The individual will serve as the owner for the security requirements for product delivery, deployment and quality assurance processes, in addition to serving as the owner of the chosen products from a configuration management perspective. The individual will work collaboratively with the IT teams in ITS and across campus and with vendors to deploy and operate threat management products at an enterprise level. A thorough knowledge of firewall policy implementation is required.
Duties include firewall approvals, evaluating network technologies and network protocols, developing and/or recommending security requirements for routers, switches, firewalls, VPNs, load balancers, and wireless technologies.
This position may be hired at different levels. In addition to the responsibilities noted above, the senior level position will lead and develop staff.
ITS provides core computing, network services, enterprise systems, and information security resources to the students, faculty, and staff of Iowa State. ITS partners with IT professionals from around campus to provide more specialized IT resources to ISU's academic and business units.
The successful candidate will be detail oriented, self-motivated, possess excellent communication skills, and have the ability to troubleshoot, learning new skills, tools, and technologies. Applicants must also possess strong time management, organizational skills, and decision making skills with the ability to identify, analyze, and solve complex problems.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of related experience; OR a Master’s degree and 2 years of related experience.
