The Marketing department is widely recognised as one of the leading departments in the Asia-Pacific region. It has a well-developed research culture and excellent publication record, with researchers publishing in the best journals in their field. The teaching program is strong and innovative and the quality of teaching, as judged by student evaluations and by peer review, is very high. Our academics appreciate the ease with which they are able to engage meaningfully with practitioners for mutual benefit.
The University of Auckland's ranking in the top 100 of the 2018 QS World Universities Ranking (ranking top in New Zealand in 37 out of 40 subject areas including Business and Management and Economics) confirms both its status as New Zealand's pre-eminent research-led university and its place amongst the top 1% of universities worldwide.
Marketing is one of eight departments in the Business School, offering a full suite of degree programmes including a particularly vibrant PhD programme and outstanding collaborative opportunities within the Business School and the wider University. Current departmental research spans the areas of marketing science, strategy, consumer behaviour, marketing communications, service marketing, customer experience management and marketing research.
Following a period of sustained stability, the Department now has the opportunity to make two appointments at full Professor level, to attract leadership in the following two fields:
Professor of Marketing (Analytics): quantitative research in areas such as big data, digital marketing, social media and technology (e.g. gaming, smartphones, mobile tech, wearables, bio sensors)
Professor of Marketing (Strategic): research in areas such as value creation, customer experience, customer engagement, product/service innovation, strategic marketing, the sharing economy, the changing nature of markets
There will be an opportunity for those interested in departmental leadership to consider becoming Head of Department in the future. If desired, further leadership opportunities within the Business School and the wider University can also be explored.
You will provide academic leadership to the development of coherent research and teaching programmes that attract the most talented students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. This commitment will be extended to attracting, retaining, supporting and mentoring highly motivated academic staff who demonstrate excellence in research and teaching. In addition, you will bring a track record of successfully competing for external research income; and contribute to increasing the impact and relevance of the Department for managers, policy makers and marketing practitioners in New Zealand and world-wide.
