The Logistics Specialist is responsible for optimizing the ongoing management of transportation and warehousing solutions for the GCF business. This position is responsible for leading the efforts to optimize transportation lanes, weight & carriers, tracking key cost-to-serve metrics, as well as identifying and leading specific cost savings initiatives related to transportation and warehousing. Additionally, the position will provide tactical operational support to the GCF business by assisting with activities such as annual outage planning, mill support, near-term transportation capacity coordination and logistics issue root cause analysis. The position will also serve as an interface to the Global Supply Chain Operations team for logistics-related issues. The role will coordinate with other teams to ensure that efficient processes are in existence to provide data needed to support the business.
The Logistics Specialist will report to the Global Cellulose Fibers Supply Chain Solutions Manager while working with a broad array of individuals and functional groups including Supply Planning, Transportation Planning, Transportation Sourcing, Customer Service, Sales/Customers, Manufacturing, Finance and the GSC-Center of Excellence (COE).
As a business logistics expert for one of the top manufacturers of fluff pulp, this role provides the opportunity to gain an in-depth understanding of the supply chain and international trade for a growing global business, while leading significant initiatives that deliver quantifiable business results
Provide advanced tactical support for order fulfillment and mill related issues that require near-term coordination and resolution in support of our customers and managing cost to serve
Establish and own the processes and metrics for the key logistics activities that drive efficient operations and customer satisfaction
Identify and lead the implementation of specific logistics-related opportunities and initiatives that generate cost savings and/or differentiable customer solutions as part of supply chain design activities as instructed by the Supply Chain Solutions Manager
Lead and coordinate operational activities that provide advance planning to avoid inefficiencies and to maintain cross-organizational alignment, as well as engage in issue resolution to address unforeseen global developments that impact the logistics portion of our supply chain
Understand and implement existing enterprise operating model capabilities and best practices relating to logistics for the Global Cellulose Fibers business and quantify new business requirements for prioritization and implementation by the COE that generate value for IP and our customers
Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, or related field
3-5 years experience with export transportation, including ocean freight, drayage, and port operations
Demonstrated leadership in collaborating with others and successfully implementing initiatives
Analytical and problem solving skills
Knowledge of supply chain concepts
Communication skills including written, verbal and presentation formats
Lean Six Sigma certification a plus
