An International Paper Financial Analyst position provides accounting and analytical support for US Paper and Packaging businesses or Supply Chain Organization and plays an integral role in the success of the Company. The ideal candidate for this position will be a highly motivated employee who will also have the ability build relationships and work effectively with others.
Selected candidates will work in the Memphis Corporate Office. Job assignments will be within our Corporate Finance organization or in one of our businesses (North America Container, Industrial Packaging Group, North American Papers, and Global Cellulose Fibers). The candidate will be an active participant on department or inter-department teams, evaluate workflow processes, and apply Kaizen principles to ensure customer satisfaction. Additionally, the candidate will review facility/business activities for standardization and enhancements and interact with Finance and business personnel in performing some more routine financial assignments, such as measuring progress against meeting various objectives, analyzing business results, developing an annual budget, and preparing short-term forecasts.
Obtain a good understanding of the financial systems, processes, and procedures used across the organization.
Provides financial analysis including interpretation and application of professional standards, company policies, and processes
Prepare journal vouchers and participate in month-end close.
Perform data entry and utilize systems as a source of research analysis.
Perform maintenance for capital project spending.
Complete various reporting requirements.
Be familiar with the financial policies and procedures outlined in the financial policies and capital investment manuals as they relate to the mills.
Participate in periodic self-review audits of account reconciliations and journal vouchers.
Handle customer service issues that require in-depth analysis and/or high degree of interpersonal and organizational sensitivity.
Ensure that applicable internal controls are followed in each area of responsibility.
Assist and support the businesses by providing routine and ad hoc analytical support as needed.
Participates in general ledger, forecasting, budgeting, accounts payable, fixed assets, capital, payroll, reporting, and monthly/quarterly/yearly closing, research and investigation, and regulatory compliance.
Investigates, reviews, and evaluates various financial transactions and the recommendation of the appropriate treatment
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
3+ years of experience with financial analysis and modeling skills
Excellent communication/presentation skills and the ability to work effectively with others
Working knowledge of various PC software with ability to quickly learn other software and computer applications
