The Sweetland Center for Writing is seeking to hire one part-time (67%) LEO Lecturer I to teach Writing 120: College Writing for International Students and ten hours per week in Writing Workshop for the Fall 2018 term only, September 1-December 31, 2018.
Teach one three-credit section of Writing 120: College Writing for International Students and ten hours per week in Writing Workshop. A Writing Workshop assignment consists of ten hours per week in the office meeting one-to-one with students seeking help with writing issues across the disciplines. All Sweetland Lecturers are also expected to participate in two 90-minute unit meetings each month. Contingent upon student demand, a second section of Writing 120 may become available in late-August/early-September increasing the effort to 100%.
In addition, the successful candidate is expected to attend a new faculty orientation on August 27, 2018, 9:00am-12:00pm and a full-day retreat on August 29, 2018, 9:00am-4:00pm.
Master’s in Composition/Rhetoric or English with a certificate in TESL and/or Master’s in Applied Linguistics or Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language, or closely related field. Demonstrated experience successfully teaching writing to international undergraduates. Preference will be given to candidates with significant ESL composition teaching experience.
Ph.D. in relevant field. Experience in one or more of the following areas: writing across the curriculum and/or writing in the disciplines, first-year writing, writing center pedagogies, or digital literacies.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
