A Research Associate (postdoctoral) position in the field of machine learning of animal objects is available at Michigan State University in the Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences.
Successful applicants will contribute to studies in multi-object tracking of swine using vision sensors and development of machine learning algorithms to determine or predict 1) changes in morphological traits relevant to body composition and 2) healthy/pathological gait.
Image analysis for automated and quantitative estimation of body condition and gait analysis has held promise to the livestock industry as an alternative to current visual, subjective scoring methods. A qualified individual will have the opportunity to utilize a wide range of approaches such as neural networks, vision sensors, vector tracking, swine production and animal behavior.
Doctorate -Computer Science/Electrical and Computer
PhD in Computer Science or Electrical and Computer Engineering.
Applicants must have a doctoral or equivalent degree or be in the final stages of earning such a degree.
Applicant must have experience with object detection, machine learning algorithms, assessment of recognition performance, coding software and analysis of the animal objects.
Excellent writing and communications skills with an established publication record.
Preferred skills and knowledge base include any combination of some of the following skill sets:
Programming language experience include Python, R, Java, C/C++ and MATLAB, Tensor Flow and access to open source contacts such as GitHub.
Responsibilities also include the ability to communicate, lead and attract other qualified programmers and provide supervision to undergraduate ECE or CS students.
Ability to work independently, and in an interdisciplinary research team.
Experience with hardware design, RFID or other identification and tracking programming and sensors.
