Founded in 1997 with headquarters in Champaign, Illinois, Stratum Med is a medical group collaborative owned by fifteen of the Midwest’s preeminent multispecialty group practices. Some of our founding and long-time shareholders include: Beacon Medical Group, Carle Physician Group, The Iowa Clinic, McFarland Clinic, Medical Associates, Quincy Medical Group and Springfield Clinic. Additionally, Stratum has business relationships with another 80+ medical groups across the country. Key objectives of the organization include the following:
Leverage purchasing volume across common expense categories in order to promote “most favored nation” pricing and enhanced contractual terms
Facilitate shared learning initiatives so shareholders and clients can emulate successes and migrate towards best practice processes in order to optimize operational effectiveness and performance
Identify business opportunities that may not be economically or strategically feasible through the lens of an individual medical group but does have merit and potential with participation and buy-in from multiple physician organizations
Stratum is seeking an accountable, entrepreneurial-minded executive for the role of Chief Operations and Strategy Officer. This position will report to Stratum’s Chief Executive Officer but in practical terms will partner with the CEO in running the company. The Chief Operations and Strategy Officer will manage staff in an effort to optimize the performance of existing business lines while also seeking innovative business opportunities yielding value to Stratum’s shareholders and clients.
Ideal candidates will possess the following key attributes, qualities, and fundamental understandings:
Entrepreneurial spirit with success in developing new business concepts and ideas. History of owning and growing small businesses is a plus.
Strong understanding of the key challenges and issues confronting executives who provide leadership to physician-owned and integrated multispecialty group practices
Excellent at building relationships through a servant leadership approach with key stakeholders both internal and external to the organization
Detail oriented with excellent follow up skills always delivering more than promised
Absolute accountability and ownership of all business tasks, challenges and the ultimate success of the company and its business lines
Ability to build a business plan including the talent to sell the plan’s merit to a board of directors
Solid understanding of key technologies supporting medical groups
Foundation and appreciation for medical group supply chain, revenue cycle, clinical operations and basic workflows
Track record of facilitating board/committee meetings, setting strategy, and delivering on those strategies. Accordingly, a consulting background is a plus
Basic understanding of Independent Practice Associations is advantageous
Track record of establishing partnerships and joint ventures which creates win/win opportunities for those entities involved
Existing relationships with medical group leaders and/or executives whose companies provide services or products to clinic organizations is a significant benefit
Comfortable rolling up his/her sleeves doing whatever is necessary to achieve a task. As a small company, Stratum has limited resources requiring executives to handle many key tasks
