Staking Engineer/Journeyman Lineman Missouri Rural Electric Cooperative is seeking a full-time Staking Engineer/Journeyman Lineman to join our organization in Palmyra, MO. The Staking Engineer/Journeyman Lineman is responsible for investigating, surveying, and staking electric distribution lines in accordance with construction specifications; preparing and assigning staking sheets in a manner that will assure the best possible electric service and the highest quality, continuity, and voltage in the safest, most efficient manner possible. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Direct and perform staking, cost estimating, and create contracts for new and existing distribution lines. Direct and perform maintenance on automated mapping and facilities management system to assure accurate documentation. Prepare right-of-way maps, legal descriptions, and easements. Learn and stay current on N.E.C. and N.E.S.C. to assure all staked line work exceeds minimum requirements of the codes. Design power lines to fit the locality, weather condition, local activity and operations within or exceeding the requirements of the established Rural Utilities Service specifications. Review construction methods; assist in establishing and reviewing line construction designs to improve the way lines are built and to improve construction and maintenance practices. Manage construction projects for cost control. Assist in the development of a long range construction work plan. Introduce potential residential and commercial members to the opportunities and benefits of receiving services. Participate in safety meetings as directed. Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Education/Experience: Must have experience working as a Journeyman Lineman. An Associate degree in electrical engineering or a related field is preferred. Physical Requirements: Must be physically and mentally able to continuously perform strenuous tasks such as carrying survey and GPS equipment. Position is required to lift weight of at least 50 pounds and be capable of holding this weight over long periods of time. Must be willing to accept 24-hour call on a rotation with other qualified personnel, as required, under adverse weather conditions 24 hours per day. Skills Required: • Must have excellent supervisory, organizational and communication skills and be able to exercise good judgment and interact well with others. • Must be able to operate surveying equipment. • Must be able to read and write legal descriptions of properties for obtaining easements and record correctly. • Must be familiar with the National Electric Code, the National Electric Safety Code, and the Rural Utilities Service specifications for distribution systems. • Must have an Electrical Lineman Certification through an approved apprenticeship program. Other Requirements: Must be able to travel and stay overnight away from the Cooperative service area for training meetings or representing the Cooperative as required.
