Christiana Care Health Care System is hiring a Part-Time health psychologist to join the psychology program at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center & Research Institute in Newark, Delaware. The primary function of this position is to provide direct psychosocial services to people affected by cancer, which includes individual, couples and family counseling, multidisciplinary team participation, inpatient consultations, and support and education group facilitation.
This psychologist will join a busy team of psychologists at the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center and other embedded behavioral health providers throughout the system. The Helen F. Graham Cancer Center was one of the first sites selected for the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Community Cancer Center Program (NCCCP) and is nationally recognized for its multidisciplinary model of care, leadership in research, and provision of support services.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide consultation and individual, couple, and family therapy related to health issues for people with cancer. Maintain complete and accurate treatment records for these services. Work as a member of multidisciplinary teams to plan and execute services. Participate in team management of patients and consults on psychosocial issues relevant to treatment. Collect data to support research and evaluation projects to assess the effectiveness of treatment and services and the specific influence of the health psychology component on patient outcomes. Present to colleagues, staff, and community groups on issues relevant to psycho-oncology and behavioral medicine. Consult to community groups and Christiana Care departments regarding modification of health behaviors, cancer prevention, and aspects of coping with cancer. Maintain confidentiality of department and patient information. Demonstrate skills and knowledge necessary to provide care appropriate to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients, including knowledge of growth and development and the ability to obtain and interpret information to identify patient needs. Perform assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; report to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients and visitors. Perform other related duties as required. Report to Director of Psychosocial Oncology on clinical activity and programming; seek supervision/consultation in a timely manner.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Qualified applicants will have a Ph.D./Psy.D. in clinical or counseling psychology from an APA-accredited psychology program, a pre-doctoral internship from an APA-accredited site is preferred, as is specialty training in psycho-oncology and/or experience in a medical setting. Applicants must be eligible for license in Delaware. Qualified applicants will also have training and experience in collaborating in behavioral research, program development, and mentoring.
