Drew University is seeking an Associate Vice President forUniversity Technology/Chief Information Officer. This role is responsible for all non-instructional information technology services at the University. Reporting to the Vice President for Finance and Administration, the AVP UT/CIO supervises the University Technology organization consisting of five teams: Infrastructure and Technology Services, Enterprise Applications, Project Management, User Services, as well as Shared Services Relationship Management. This position oversees the daily operations of these five UT units, assessing performance, and establishing programs to continually monitor and improve UT services to the University community. The AVP UT/CIO oversees the University Technology operating and capital budgets. The position is especially responsible for closely managing a high-profile strategic shared technology services relationship with another regional college.
Manage the University Technology organization and supervise staff, including direct supervision of the directors and an Administrative Assistant. Work with the UT leadership team to support the service catalog. Evaluate staff performance periodically and through annual performance reviews. Provide counsel to staff on day-to-day issues.
Directly manage a strategically important shared services relationship with a regional college to which the University fully outsources its technology infrastructure and ERP applications management.
Collaborate with the University Librarian to deliver high-quality, responsive, and cost-effective services supporting instructional technology.
Lead University Technology strategic planning efforts. Collaborate with the Vice President for Finance and Administration to monitor industry trends and user expectations and adapt Drew technology services to ensure that these remain relevant, practical, and accessible for end-users.
Engage with the University community to regularly assess technology needs. Plan and prioritize major technology projects to meet University needs. Work within existing and implement new governance structures as appropriate, such as the Academic Computing Advisory Committee and the Enterprise Technology Team Leads, to determine and prioritize institutional technology projects.
Education and Experience:
Education: Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s strongly preferred in Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration.
Experience: 7-10 years required, at least 5 years working as IT liaison with operational and executive management. Strong understanding of Information Technology best practices, processes, and life-cycles, preferably in a higher education environment. Excellent track record of establishing and fostering strong internal customer service and business relationships with executive, management, and staff-level employees. Prior experience partnering with University constituencies to develop strategic IT roadmaps and track progress with scorecards. Extensive Contract Management experience including establishing, monitoring, and overseeing technological Service Level Objectives and Service Level Agreements.
