Responsible for the overall operation of the organization. Implements policies and procedures. Works with the Board of Directors to establish the organization’s mission, vision and values. Serves as the primary liaison with external organizations and agencies. Works actively in donor development and fundraising.
Specific Duties Performed
PRIMARY DUTIES IN ORDER OF IMPORTANCE:
Management of the organization (90% of position)
· Strategic Planning
o In conjunction with the Board of Directors, develop business strategies and plans consistent with the organization’s short and long term objectives
o Develop and maintain awareness of market and industry developments and share these with the Board and other key entities
o Identify growth opportunities
· Implement policies as established by the Board of Directors
· Organization Representative
o Represent The Cavaliers, present, and speak effectively to the public, Village of Rosemont, Drum Corps International, Strategic Partners and Suppliers, and other appropriate entities
o Attend key functions, events, and external meetings
o Manage and develop relationships with key partners, suppliers, and vendors
o Develop and enforce policies and procedures to support legal and ethical operations.
o Manage all aspects of the organization to achieve goals. Monitor operations and respond appropriately to resolve issues
o Develop a high performing management team. Foster an environment for high staff, member, and volunteer performance and morale.
o Recruits, hires, and mentors key staff positions
o Ensure performance management of functional areas and personnel
o Communicate serious issues including potential harassment, bullying, illegal activity, or endangerment of individuals to Board of Directors.
o Spend time embedded with individual units to observe educational and administrative procedures and practices
· Community and Donor Relations, Revenue Development
o Work with board members, the Director of Marketing and Revenue Development and others to establish and nurture donor relationships
o Through creativity and entrepreneurship, develops new revenue streams of significance
o Develops and maintains relationships with vendor and in-kind donors
o Develop and maintain strong relationships with community entities
· Financial Management
o Oversight and participation in the budgeting process
o Ensure the organization adheres to the budget throughout the year
o Monitor financial status and take action to achieve and maintain financial viability
o Sets policies and procedures for procurement and other functions
Ensure coverage of key operational areas (10% of position)
· Ensure key functions are covered in the absence of identified staff.

Experience with the marching arts or a nonprofit organization highly desirable. 5-7+ years in a management position, including direct and indirect reports, volunteer management, budget management, and public speaking experience.
Special physical, mental, and environmental requirements
Travel, including intermittent presence and observation with each program. Evening, night, weekend work requirements. Operational vehicle capable of long distance travel and valid driver’s license required.
B.A., B.S. or similar degree in a relevant field

The Cavaliers organization was formed in 1948 and has been one of the nation's top music and marching performance ensembles for decades, including 20 national championships. Consisting of an all-male drum and bugle corps, and additional percussion and wind ensembles, along with community outreach groups and activities, The Cavaliers organization provides life-lessons both on and off the performance/competition arena.
