Position Summary: We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Research Technician.
The Simeone laboratory at NYU Langone Health is dedicated to advancing science to change outcomes for patients with pancreatic cancer. We have a large and vibrant research team, and currently have an open position for a research technician to assist in projects focusing on understanding therapeutic responses in pancreatic cancer and biomarker development. This individual will be responsible for performing basic lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. The candidate will be involved in the processing of human samples (blood and tumor tissues) needed for the execution of biomarker-driven in vitro and in vivo studies as well as for the generation of novel pancreatic cancer models (organoids and PDXs). In addition, this individual will be involved in the maintenance of laboratory cells and assist with genotyping of genetically engineered mice. The PI serves as the Director the Pancreatic Cancer Center at NYU and her laboratory is well-funded and embedded in the rich and highly collaborative research environment of the Perlmutter Cancer Center and the larger NYU research community.
Demonstrates knowledge of the organizations Service Standards and incorporates them into the performance of duties.
Lab Duties - Basic lab duties under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Process human blood sample for purification of PBMC, plasma and serum. Process tissue samples for the generation of primary 2D and 3D cell cultures and patient derived xenograft. Assist with genotyping of mouse models. Assist with implantation and ultrasound detection of orthotopic mouse models.
Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates blood and tissue inventory database.
Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to members at all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information. Effective oral and written communication skills.
Judgment/Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedures, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Minimum Qualifications: To qualify you must have a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience. Advanced (beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator). Effective oral and written communication skills required.
Experience with Blood processing: purification of PBMC using by density gradient (Ficoll-Paque or similar), serum and plasma. Experience with mammalian cell culture, aseptic techniques, and basic wet laboratory techniques Experience with 3D culture models. Experience with xenograft tumor models. Experience with molecular biology techniques (DNA, RNA and protein extraction , PCR, immunoblotting, immunohistochemistry) Basic computer skills (MS-word, Excel and Powerpoint) Must be able to follow detailed protocols, take direction from senior lab members, and independently complete assigned tasks. Knowledge of Filemaker pro software
