Job Description We are the IBM CIO Network engineering team and we are looking for the Lead Network Firewall Engineer to perform technical lead duties as and some management responsibilities for IBM internal network. The ideal candidate will be responsible for guiding a small firewall operations team through a full Firewall lifecycle from initial deployment to configuration management, day to day operations, monitoring and alerting. Resolution of incidents and service requests for a large enterprise infrastructure.
Functions and Responsibilities
Work as an individual contributor as well as a lead of a squad of security professionals in a 24x7x365 shift rotation as well as being a primary or secondary point of escalation.
Operation of firewalls, both traditional and next generation, including firewall device health and availability management, and service-level reporting,
Taking a lead in responding to security events and event mitigations
Maintaining network security standards and ensuring compliance with security policies and procedures.
Leading all aspects of major network firewall installations and upgrades.
Provide information and status updates to leadership on priority incidents.
Identify, create and implement processes, runbooks and operational guides
Provide ongoing technical and procedural training and guidance to the team members
This position is available in either our Raleigh, NC or Atlanta, GA office.
Required Technical and Professional Expertise
Experience in steady state management of Firewalls, and optionally IDS/IPS , DLP & SIEM Solutions
Experience with various firewall technologies, Including NGFW by Palo Alto and Cisco
Experience with monitoring security events and conducting incident response operations per documented procedures and industry best practices.
Experience with analyzing log files with the ability to identify false positive and true positive events.
Experience with troubleshooting layer 2/3 TCP issues at the packet level with tcpdumps and wireshark
At least 3 year’s experience in a Security Operations Role in a 24x7 SOC environment.
At least 2 years’ experience in operating firewall or equivalent security technologies
At least 2 years of leadership experience as a team lead, shift lead or equivalent
Industry recognized security certifications This can include security methodology (Eg.CISSP, CISA, ITIL, etc.) or vendor specific (product) certifications (Eg. CCSP, JNCIS-FWV, etc.)
Preferred Tech and Prof Experience
Security technologies (e. g. Firewalls, SIEM, DLP, WCF, IPS,)
Network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls and the associated networking concepts
Knowledge of Security concepts and ability to apply them to business processes
Automation skills, specifically include the application of automation to firewall operations (Ansible is preferred)
Programming / scripting, including for automaton and knowledge of database technology and its use.
Strong team oriented interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interface with a broad range of internal/external contacts and roles, including vendors and IT-business personnel.
Strong analytical skills
Oral and written communication skills
Ability to work proactively and independently managing multiple work streams with shifting priorities.
Ability to work under stress in emergencies, with the flexibility to handle multiple high-pressure situations simultaneously.
