Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations - 1901047
The Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations will be responsible for information technology across all clinical areas, including Stony Brook University Hospital, Stony Brook University Physicians and their ambulatory practice sites, clinical research performed by all Stony Brook University faculty members and associated programs, and the Suffolk County Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment (DSRIP) program that is led by Stony Brook Medicine. This role does not include University-wide enterprise IT support.
The Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations is the Senior Executive providing the business leadership and vision for the strategic planning, management and implementation of information technology systems in support of the mission and strategic goals of SBM. The Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations will work collaboratively to set a vision across the clinical enterprise. This individual will be a transformational, innovative, entrepreneurial and collaborative leader with demonstrated ability to effectively inspire, manage, mentor and develop faculty and staff. The Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations will serve as a leader in advancing clinical operations, ensuring quality, and transforming the care delivery, patient, faculty, student and staff experience across the system on all aspects of change management, program management and strategic development.
The Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations will report to the SVP, Enterprise CIO and the SVP for Health Sciences and Dean, School of Medicine.
Duties of the Chief Information Officer, Clinical Operations may include the following but are not limited to:
Serve as a key strategic partner to the SVP/Enterprise CIO and SVP for Health Sciences and Dean, School of Medicine and other members of the senior leadership team to advance the University's mission of clinical operations through innovative use of technology.
Actively participate as a member of Senior Management in setting policy and direction for clinical operations.
Develop and analyze the IT strategic plan on an annual basis, optimizing as far as possible its alignment with the overall campus IT strategy.
Provide leadership on a range of long-term policy and strategic initiatives in collaboration with other healthcare and IT leaders.
Collaborate with Biomedical Informatics leadership to identify and support innovative IT initiatives that have strategic value.
Support and provide focus on all integration activities and set integration strategies to achieve greater effectiveness and efficiency of operations.
Lead, define, and develop enterprise data analytics capabilities.
Create effective partnerships and negotiate advantageous agreements with service providers and vendors.
Spearhead IT governance activities in the clinical, financial, patient related research and data analytics domains.
Provide oversight of recruitment, development and retention of staff.
Establish an IT culture of innovation, delivery, and partnership across the organization.
Manage budgets to optimize use of available resources.
Organize a healthcare IT workforce of >250 staff members.
Work collaboratively with Information Technology leadership of the University in promoting best practices across the organization.
Educate the management team in the effective and appropriate use of information systems, data management, and new/emerging technologies.
Evaluate, leverage and develop existing strategic relationships between internal IT resources and external entities, while continuously seeking additional relationships and partnerships that further the mission of the organization.

Required Skills, Qualifications & Experience
At least 7 years' relevant experience within a healthcare setting
Experience as an IT leader with broad based, progressive IT leadership experience managing teams to effectively strategize, innovate, plan and implement
Experience leading complex technology implementations and integrations
Experience with HIPAA, cyber security and state and federal policies and laws related to the delivery and management of healthcare services
Demonstrated experience with vendor management/relations
Experience successfully working and collaborating with clinicians, faculty and researchers
Preferred Skills, Qualifications & Experience
Master's, PhD, MD or other advanced degree
Experience in support of patient related research activities
Experience working in Higher Education, a State Institution or Research Facility
Experience managing complex budgets
