Stanford University School of Medicine is seeking a web developer to join the Research IT team in the Office of Information Resources and Technology (IRT) (https://researchit.stanford.edu). Research IT delivers the next generation of tools and services used by researchers, research participants, patients and clinicians to collect, discover, analyze data, make discoveries and improve human health and wellness.
The Research IT team works on a variety of infrastructure and software applications used at Stanford Medicine and other institutions. These include tools for working with clinical data from the hospitals and clinics (the STARR data warehouse), monitoring patient health status (CHOIR), and supporting population health studies (MyHeart Counts, Apple Heart Study, our mHealth Platform).
The web developer will contribute to our team by creating aesthetically pleasing, compelling user experiences for researchers and staff to make discoveries using medical data. She/he should understand how to design, implement, and test pixel-perfect web applications that are secure, accessible, and work well with all common web browsers. The web developer will work within a team of Java developers and should be comfortable collaborating with non-technical project stakeholders throughout the Stanford community.

Strong visual design and user interaction design skills.
Demonstrated understanding of web application security and testing methodologies.
Skilled at writing polished web copy, product information sheets and documentation.
Comfortable developing and presenting product demos to varied audiences.
Experience facilitating user reviews and focus-group testing.
Solid software engineering skills and testing practices to ensure high quality solutions.
Strong team player and individual contributor, able to work in an Agile development environment.
Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies.
Working familiarity with modern single-page web app development.
Experience dealing with device and browser compatibility issues.
Experience working with high-risk, regulated data (HIPAA, PCI, etc.)
Work experience with Google Cloud or similar.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE (REQUIRED):
Bachelor's degree and five years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (REQUIRED):
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated significant experience developing for web content management systems.
Demonstrated significant experience in developing websites and web applications using open source tools, languages, libraries, and current standards-compliant code.
Ability to hand code HTML.
Demonstrated ability to write, compile, test, debug, and deploy software on UNIX-like platforms and web servers.
Knowledge of web analytics tools and related analyses.
Ability to design and manage relational databases.
Ability to design and implement web services.
Ability to interact positively with and build consensus among a diverse group of colleagues, clients, and senior leadership.
Ability to understand and manage greater web environment.
Ability to design and integrate complex web enterprise systems.
Familiarity with browser devices and platform differences and idiosyncrasies, and ability to develop workarounds to accommodate specialized user/client needs and device platforms.
Rarely writing by hand, lift/carry/push/pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.
Strong visual acuity.
