Oglethorpe University, Atlanta’s leading private, Liberal Arts University is seeking an energetic and enthusiastic professional to serve as the Head Men’s and Women’s Tennis Coach. The Head Tennis Coach is a member of the Oglethorpe University Athletic Department. Under the direction of the Director of Athletics, the head coach is principally responsible for the instruction and development of all student-athletes within the intercollegiate Tennis program. The Head Coach is accountable for all phases of growing a competitive tennis program which competes in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA). Primary duties include coaching the team, managing the budget, overseeing game day operations including travel arrangements, and effectively recruiting student athletes. The head coach will also maintain positive public relations for the Athletic Department and act in accordance with institutional, SAA, and NCAA rules, regulations, and policies.
This is a full-time position with an excellent benefit package, including employer paid health insurance, 403(b) retirement plan, tuition waivers and much more. Salary is commensurate with experience.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1.Directly responsible to the Director of Athletics.
2.Provides instruction to student-athletes on Tennis fundamentals, performance, and strategy.
3.Organizes and conducts daily practice sessions.
4.Responsible for developing training rules and conduct of athletes.
5.Attends professional meetings, clinics, workshops, etc.
6.Has a thorough knowledge of NCAA, conference, and institutional rules and regulations.
7.Adheres to and enforces all policies and procedures as stated in the Oglethorpe University Athletic Department Policies and Procedures Manual and the rules and regulations as stated in the NCAA Division III Manual. Ensures student-athlete understanding and compliance with such rules.
8.Reports any alleged violations of NCAA, conference or institutional rules and regulations.
9.Manages and maintains an assigned operating budget.
10.Prepares inventory of supplies and equipment.
11.Reports on needs and maintenance of facilities and equipment to the Director of Athletics.
12.Recruits qualified student-athletes.
13.Works with the Director of Sports Information regarding publicity and promotion of his/her team.
14.Works with the Director of Athletics on scheduling.
15.Recommends athletes for awards.
16.Furnishes information regarding team roster for eligibility, etc. to the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance.
17.Assists with athletic department fundraising initiatives including annual Booster Club expectations.
18.Develops a work schedule (office hours) that make him/her accessible to the student-athlete and other schools.
19.Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum of three years coaching experience at the collegiate level is preferred. A commitment to the Division III philosophy and knowledge of NCAA rules required. Position also requires a valid driver’s license.

Additional qualifications include communication skills that allow for the ability to teach, motivate, and counsel student-athletes effectively as well as being self-motivated, positive, energetic, eager to teach, and a willingness to travel. Position may require ability (and safe driving record) to drive a 15-passenger van; ability to demonstrate appropriate technical skills during practice; ability to plan, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines while working on multiple tasks; ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
Work Environment/Physical Demands:
This position requires work in a normal office environment as well as on the tennis court; typically running, bending, crouching and stooping; use of tools requiring high dexterity is required as well as occasional lifting of up to 25lbs; use of office equipment, tennis equipment and flexible work schedule is also required.
