Located in beautiful Salt Lake City, and set against the backdrop of the snow covered Wasatch mountains within minutes of 7 world class ski resorts, the department has a tradition of academic and clinical excellence. The department of radiation oncology occupies a spacious 30,000 square feet on the ground floor of the beautiful Huntsman Cancer Hospital, on the University of Utah Salt Lake campus.

6 Varian linear accelerators, including 3 True Beams with robotic 6 DOF couches, and an Edge SRS machine, equipped for frameless stereotaxy, 6 DOF couch, OSMS Surface Guidance, Calypso Body GPS and ExacTrac, are all in operation. A Siemens Artiste with in-room CT on Rails is also in operation, as well as Elekta Clarity intrafraction ultrasound guidance on 3 linacs. A new 64 slice, dual energy Siemens CT Simulator is in operation along with a second large-bore GE Lightspeed CT simulator. Varian Eclipse, RaySearch RayStation and BrainLab iPlan external beam treatment planning systems are in use as well as Elekta Mosaiq Record & Verify. Very active image guided IMRT, IMRS/stereotactic, SBRT and 4D programs are in place.
Performs radiation therapy treatments.
Explains treatment procedures to patients.
Prepares the treatment room and equipment, transfers patients to treatment area, and positions patients for treatment.
Checks daily treatment parameters, delivers the prescribed dosage, and maintains treatment records.
Photographs patients in the treatment position and observes patients for unusual skin reactions.
Calculates radiation dosage for new patients, changes in treatment ports, or changes of dosage.
Performs tumor localization.
Maintains supplies for the treatment room.
Schedules patients for treatment on treatment machines.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
Ability to perform the essential functions of the job as outlined above.
Demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
Ability to provide care appropriate to the population served.
In accordance with departmental procedures and generally accepted Dosimetry practices, ability to independently determine and calculate computerized isodose plans for radiation oncology patients.
Ability to ascertain if building beam modifying devices need adjustment and perform the necessary maintenance.
Ability to perform verification checks and apply quality assurance procedures to ensure accuracy of dose calculations.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.
The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider card through American Heart Association or obtain within one month of hire.
Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.
Credentialed in Radiation Therapy Technology by the American Registry of Radiology (ARRT).
Current Radiation Therapist certification.
