Job Summary: Support activities related to enterprise data architecture, data modeling, data management and retention specifically related to creating a future state architecture for Internet of Things (IoT) and Sensor Based Logistics (SBL). Responsibilities include: Support Conceptual and Logical Data Modeling efforts, Implement enterprise platform for Metadata Management, Facilitate Data Governance meetings with Development teams and Data Stewards. Leads/manages peers and cross functional teams on diverse projects with a major corporate impact. Routinely work on multiple highly complex assignments concurrently.

The Data Architect provides guidance, enablement and direction in support of Information Technology needs that support the global logistics business of FedEx. Members of this team participate in a community of architects to define standards, application blueprints, architectural guidelines and best practices that enable a capability based long-term vision and strategy. In addition, members of this team provide architectural leadership and deliverables supporting core enterprise applications, programs and projects to further the company's global, cross operating company strategies.
Decompose the IoT architecture into conceptual pieces by defining the layers, tiers and interfaces of the IoT system.
Analyze how business objectives and technical requirements impact the IoT system.
Participate in long range planning for the structure and interaction of the enterprise's major types and sources of data, information needs, business processes and strategy.
Responsible for decisions and priorities regarding the overall architecture at the SAFe Portfolio level.
Support conceptual and logical data modeling efforts for strategic initiatives. o Implement enterprise platform for Metadata Management.
Participate in data governance meetings with development teams and data stewards.
Translate business needs into architectural solutions (current and target state) and defining solutions to business problems through the application of information technology.
Facilitate the establishment and implementation of standards and guidelines that direct the design of technology solutions including architecting and implementing solutions requiring integration of multiple platforms.
Partner with business leadership, industry analysts, software and hardware vendors and internal stakeholders to develop enterprise data architecture strategies.
Determine architecture solutions that meet performance, scalability, reliability, and security needs.
Provide technical leadership and guidance to project team areas as appropriate.
Support the definition and implementation of strategic planning efforts such as Visionary Summits, multi-year planning, and enterprise foundational services as appropriate.
Provide proactive technical oversight and mentorship to architecture and development teams fostering re-use, design for scale, stability, and operational efficiency based on strategic business and IT tenets.
Lead multiple, large, highly complex efforts simultaneously, making key architecture and technology decisions.
Research and evaluate emerging data management technologies for applicability and adoption.
Work with business leaders, data architects, and development teams to inventory, develop and maintain target and interim state data models using FedEx standards.
Understanding of Message Queuing Telemetry Transport (MQTT) protocol.
Proven leadership skills including the ability to work well with a large team across multiple functional areas.
Proven technical skills in data architecture, data modeling, data management and data retention concepts and practices.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to upper-level management and officers.
Strong problem solving skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently.
The successful candidate for this position can expect to lead discussions in a team environment with a wide range of professional enterprise software engineers, architects and database administrators.
Domicile: Collierville, TN (Suburbs of Memphis, TN) Orlando, FL Colorado Springs, CO Relocation assistance may be available for this position, but is based on business decision.
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree, in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems and/or equivalent formal training or work experience. Five (5) years equivalent work experience in Information Technology or Engineering environment. A related advanced degree may offset the related experience requirement.
