Position Title: Chevron Oronite Development Program
Functional Group: Products and Technology
Location: Initial assignments would be at one of the following sites - the Richmond, CA research facility, San Antonio facility or the Belle Chasse, LA manufacturing facility. Positions may require domestic and possibly some international travel.
Overview of Position:
This position is a unique opportunity for a newly-graduated Chemist, Chemical Engineer, or Mechanical Engineer to experience a career within Chevron Oronite while contributing to important projects and business goals. The successful candidate will join the Oronite Rotational Development Program (ODP), a program developed to accelerate career development and ensure Oronite has the technical skills to execute our long-term business objectives. In the program, the candidate will hold three positions in widely ranging areas of responsibility within the company over a period of three to four years. The positions will be determined based on the candidate’s skills and knowledge, the candidate’s career objectives, and the business needs of Chevron Oronite. The opportunities will be in functional areas such as research, product development, manufacturing, business/product line planning, and technical marketing. Each new position will be determined near the end of the candidate’s current assignment. Once committed to the first assignment, the candidate will be expected to continue in rotational assignments before moving into their first permanent assignment.
Typical Key Job Responsibilities of Possible Assignments:
Independently design, coordinate, and conduct fundamental and applied R&D programs in support of Chevron Oronite’s global lubricant and fuel additive businesses. This includes applying internal combustion engine/chemistry fundamentals as well as advanced problem solving skills to develop new cost competitive additive products and formulations.
Responsible to regional and global customers for Automotive, Natural Gas, Railroad, and Marine Engine Oil additive development. Functions include, but not limited to, new component evaluations, new product and competitive product performance testing in engines, engine hardware analysis and modeling, and managing formulation and component changes that impact the product line.
Conduct technical laboratory research of novel additive synthesis, analytical characterization, or performance testing. A broad set of skills are required including organic synthesis, literature review, and written communication.
Design processes for scale-up of new additives and improve profitability and safety of existing chemical processes. Functions include pilot plant design, process sensitivity studies, interaction with raw material suppliers, and supply chain support.
Act as process engineer for day to day operation of units within the manufacturing plant. Take responsibility for meeting production plans, product quality, and trouble shooting operational difficulties.
Execute market study to determine a slate of products, technical resource needs to develop and support them, and price positioning to justify investment for new lubricant/fuel product lines in the U.S.
BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Chemical/Mechanical Engineering, or Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry
GPA – 3.0 or above
