DUTIES: Position Description: The Director of Academic Technology leads the long-term strategic plan of the department to support all the critical operations of our schools and colleges and defines the roadmap for a successful transformation and implementation of innovative technology solutions in education. Working closely with the CIO and all key internal stakeholders, the Director coordinates and mentors a team of IT professionals to ensure the delivery of academic solutions and services that consistently meet and exceed the needs of the organization, drive process efficiencies and high level of satisfaction both for faculty and students. Key Responsibilities: -Assess current capabilities and needs for academic technology solutions and define the 3-5 years strategic product and service roadmap, in particular around online education -Partner with Deans, Faculty, Administration and Student Affairs to define and prioritize requirements -Ensure high quality support and reliability of academic technology -Develop and manage contingency recovery plans and exercises to restore all operations timely -Focus on continuous process improvement and user satisfaction by implementing innovative technological solutions to support online education initiatives. -Define and optimize team structure, roles and support responsibilities for improved performances and efficiencies. Coordinate operations with the broader IT organization and other service and support groups. -Mentor, develop and acquire talent to create a team of Academic IT professionals who can lead complex initiatives and partner with key academic stakeholders to improve overall quality and operations of our offerings -Provide hand-on support for project management, issue resolutions -Report regularly on plans and status of academic initiatives to senior management and faculty -Assist in overall strategic IT planning and ensure proper coordination and alignment with Academic strategic initiatives -Develop cross functional relationships within departments, across library and other IT units, participating in regular activities and meetings to promote central IT goals and standards -Plan and coordinate for growth, upgrades and disaster recovery for Academic Systems and Applications. -Work closely in coordination with Academic leadership and Curriculum committees in the colleges to align Academic and Library Systems and Educational Applications objectives with the educational and research missions of the Academic Medical Center. -Provide Project management and leadership in needs assessment, integration of services and IT development in other areas assigned by the CIO -Oversee various projects assigned to staff (DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE ABOVE POSITION DESCRIPTION) QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Skills/Qualifications: -Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related fields of study is required. -In depth understanding of academic applications & technology, educational applications and web technology, curricular automation & training services and student information systems (Banner). -Excellent interpersonal, written, and/or communication, analytical, team building, management and organizational skills with innovative approaches to information systems issues and problems. Experience: 5+ years of Academic Information Systems experience and team management in an academic medical center or university.
